Today is Fourth of July…what did you do for the holiday? Barbeque with family and friends, lay out in the sun, eat lots of food, watch fireworks?

I didn’t really do much today. I finally rolled out of bed at around 9AM, which is late for me and decided that today would be a good day to buy some birthday presents for my friend, Cindy. Cindy is in Tonga, doing her part for the Peace Corps. She went over a year and a half ago to be a teaching aide for the Tongan people. From the letters and emails I get it sounds more like a retreat on a Hawaiian paradise, minus some, okay all, of the amenities. She sounds bored being there, but I’m sure she will make it through the next nine months or so that are left. Her boyfriend, Les, will be visiting her for a month in August.

I bought her a bunch of stuff, just little things that she can’t get over there. She likes to color, so I got her some crayons with sparkles built right in. I never had anything like that…I thought they were very cool. I want them, but I’ll ship them over to her. I also bought her this Star Wars: Episode 1 book, that has buttons on the side and you can push them and hear what people are saying. Les told her about seeing Star Wars a milliion times… she has no idea what we are talking about. I also bought her the Dawson’s Creek CD, because she was able to watch, via tape, those shows and now wants the CD. I also bought some more practical stuff, but I’m sure she’ll be happy to get anything from me. I’ll ship it on Tuesday, when the Mailboxes, Etc. opens up again.

It’s a great day outside, at least here in San Francisco area…not too much wind and sunny. I’m supposed to join Les at the top of Mt. Tamalpais to watch the fireworks. From there, we are hoping to see firework shows in San Francisco, Marin and Oakland at the same time. Last year, I watched the fireworks from the Golden Gate Bridge… walking across. At the end of the show, this guy behind me asked his girlfriend to marry him. I didn’t even know them and was happy for them… I just wanted to hug them… I don’t know why.

Hopefully Fourth of July will be just as fun this year…
