Plays Well With Others

Navigating the registry …

My Horoscope for Today*:
Be practical today, Gemini. This is no time for flights of fancy about anything. You are bothered by something in your home environment that you consider an eyesore. Use your wits and creativity to either fix it or remove it and replace it inexpensively. Your mate or partner will be delighted with the change, and with you.

What the hell is wrong with our (American) legal system?!!? First OJ gets off for the murder of his ex-wife and Ron Goldman, now the Ramsey case ends with no charges. What the hell?!? Why don’t we just say it’s okay to go around killing people if you have lots of money and can hide it really well.

I dont want to say the parents did it, because that could be slanderous and I dont want to get sued, but it sure looks like they did it from the evidence and their reactions and witnesses. I just dont understand what the hell is wrong with our legal system, everyone is getting away with murder.

I realized today that I hadn’t bought a gift for my friends wedding that I’m in on Saturday. I always find it kind of strange going through the registry list of things people want. I mean here is this list of stuff they want to get for their wedding, and all I can think of is, why do they need that? I mean like asking for a spatula that costs $20, just because it matches the cookware you’re buying is kind of ridiculous, but there it is in black and white. You can learn alot about people by going through their registry … do you really need a $100 set of sheets? I dont think I’ve ever owned something that expensive for my bed … maybe the bed itself. I go to Target for my sheets, and only if they’re on sale.

Anyhow, I ended up buying them this pasta insert for the cookware they chose. Normally, I like buying things that are just a little more fun, but it’s the end of the list here. Seems kind of stupid to have a pasta insert, I just cook my pasta in a pot then drain it in a collander … but now they’ll have a pasta insert. I always try to personalize the gifts I give in some way, so I went to the grocery store and bought some boxed pasta, some pasta sauce and a tiny parmesan cheese and put them all in the pasta insert, so when they open it, they’ll have a meal all ready to try it out with.

A long time ago I learned how to wrap gifts so the tape doesn’t show, so I love wrapping presents. Maybe it’s the designer in me, but anything that allows me to be creative is right up my alley. I went to Walgreens and bought some paper, some silver ribbon and a bow, and some silver crepe paper and wrapped the gift up. For christmas I’ve decided to just buy brown kraft paper and then gt some rubber stamps and stamp it and wrap gifts that way. Christmas paper is so outrageously expensive, and it seems like they keep giving less and less paper per roll. Instead of bows at christmas I usually find some inexpensive ornaments and glue them to the top of the gifts.

I’m sort of sounding like Martha Stewart now, aren’t I? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not Mr. Crafty all the time … just when I get in the mood. Most of the time, I’m all for letting other people do it.

I have to talk a little about some of the news items. First off, Philip Morris puts up some cancer admission statement on it’s website today, and people are saying they are late admitting it. So, how many people weren’t aware that cigarettes cause cancer..show of hands. I dont get the criticism from the outside groups. I hate cigarette smoking, but Philip Morris sells that damn things … why the hell would they be eager to put up a warning. I mean would McDonalds be eager to warn “Eating our food could lead to heart attacks”. Plus, we aren’t stupid … everyone knows what is good and what is bad for our bodies … warning labels or not. At some point, people just stop noticing the warnings, dont you agree. I say, leave Philip Morris alone, at least they are finally doing something positive.

Second story is about this doctor lady that found she had breast cancer, but lives in the South Pole. My heart goes out to her, but damn, how about some planning. First if planes can’t land in the South Pole, how the hell did she get there. Second, why did she wait til she was really in bad shape, before deciding to get airlifted out. People have been dropping medication to her so she can self-medicate herself … and it’s been going on for months. Can’t someone dropped to her so they can assist in getting her out. I dont get the whole situation … seems like there is an easy solution, but everyone is making it complicated.

Last news story, which wasn’t in todays newspaper, but in the news a couple weeks ago. You know how food drops work, like in Kosovo. A plane full of packs of food, drops them below and then the people open the crates up and get the food out. Have you ever wondered exactly how that works? Like do they drop it in an open field, or what. Seems one food drop when bad, when the crate came down on top of a seven year old kid. The kids was, of course, killed. Just seems sad that these people are trying to do a good thing, and then the crate lands on someone.

Tonight I had a test in Spanish class. I think I did okay … I got a B on the last test, which is just fine with me. The class is pretty fun, mainly because there are some fun people in the class. We laugh about so many things. Most of us cram for the tests, minutes before class, in hopes of retaining everything. One girl and I agreed that we were storing it, and if the test didn’t come quickly it would all spill out of our heads. To say the least, it took us two hours to finally get the test, and we both laughed that everything had seeped out already. I’m sure we both did just fine.

Question of the Day:
What was the last thing you worried about, and then when it finally came you found it to be alot less painful? Let me know at the message board.
