Plays Well With Others

First day of work …

My Horoscope for Today*:
Keep your bags packed, and be ready to pluck the plum that grows at a distance. Your daring, idealism, and vision could bring you financial opportunities and rewards. You could be a spiritual warrior, paving the way for others. Pay attention to your gut instincts about your ability to act as a catalyst, and send healing energies to those in need. Your unusual sensitivity and your compassion for humanity could lead to an opportunity to contribute to the common good. You may discover new areas of self-expression, and you could turn these into a rewarding business that you conduct from home. Give it some thought, make preparations, and consider a possible change of lifestyle.

I’ve got to clear something up regarding yesterdays earthquake in California. It happened in the desert … a long way from San Francisco, in fact, the whole state of New York could fit between the area in between San Francisco and the desert.

Anyhow, that 7.1 quake was identical to one that happened exactly ten years to the day, right under my house. The Quake of 1989 was one most San Franciscans won’t soon forget … so here is my quake story.

I was washing my hands in the bathroom, getting ready for a high school homecoming rally the next day. We were in the process of making posters and stuff for our homecoming competition. The house began to shake, at first slighty then harder and harder, to the point where I was pratically knocked off my feet. I quickly headed out the door of the bathroom, and as I exited a shelf full of knick knacks fell down nearly landing on me. I got past all of this, and, holding the walls to keep from falling, I headed toward the dining room, where my mom was screaming from. I went through our living room, watching books, plants and everything else fly off the shelves and onto the floor, in fact, a hanging plant was nearly swinging through a window. I heard my mom yelling to grab the dog, so I found the dog in the living room, and tackled her and dragged her under the table in the dining room. The shaking lasted only fifteen seconds, but seemed like an eternity. It took nearly a week for the power to be turned back on in the house. Strange enough, I made it to the homecoming meeting afterwards, more to be with friends than anything else.

School was closed for a few days, to repair floor and ceiling tiles. The upper story to our school was closed for a couple of weeks. It was something people still talk about … the Quake of 89. We are still waiting for the big one to hit …

I returned the tuxes from the wedding today. Part of my best man duties …

Today was my first day at Snowball.com. I arrived at noon, because I wouldn’t have a computer until then. Within minutes of arriving, they took me to lunch for a burrito … which was very good.

The rest of the day was spent basically installing programs onto my computer and setting things up. I learned that at a startup, you’re basically on your own, to get things set up … which isn’t a problem, just something to get used to. I still have to figure out how to get a phone, email access, and a trashcan. A girl that sits next to me, started today also, so that made me feel much better. Basically everyday, someone new starts with the company.

I’m working as an Associate Producer for the Corporate Marketing group, which means I’ll have my hands in all the sites under Snowball. I’m currently doing some work on ChickClick.com, a girlie site, but will also be able to work with PowerStudents.com, ign.com, and InsideGuide.com.

The building is way cool, and I understand we will be moving to a cooler building in the next few months … we definately need more space, as we’re all sitting on top of each other. None of us have offices, or cubes … we are basically at desks, all together in a common room, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Like I said, all the people are really cool.

I’m sure I’ll have more to report as time goes on. I love the fact that I dont have to get on a freeway to get to work, and it only takes me twenty minutes … woohoo! I love this.

I got my email from Amazon.com saying my order is on the way … here’s what I should be getting in the next couple of days, which are all singles so far. I have this thing about only buying singles lately, because most of them have one good song and a bunch of crappy songs.

I’m getting the Ugly Girl single, because that song cracks me up. Its by Flemming and John, and its just funny. I’m getting LA Song single, which I also really like, and the single Smooth. All of these are songs I like … I keep a notepad of songs I like then order them when I have a bunch listed. I think music is an obsession with me … I could listen forever. If I had to be locked in a dark room … I’d want music..it would keep me sane.

Question of the Day:
What are your favorite songs, or the latest CD you’ve purchased? Let me know at the message board.
