Plays Well With Others

Dancing …

I did a little overhaul of the journal … not really a redesign, but more of a renovation or remodel. I moved the poll to this page, and changed a few colors. There are a few other things I want to do, but they’ll have to wait.

Something reminded about my first school dance today, and I thought I would recap it here in the journal.

My first school dance was in the 7th grade, middle school. I remember going, mainly just to watch people and be a part of it all. It was held in the cafeteria of the school, and I mainly stayed near the wall or near the drink area, quietly observing. Also, working up the nerve to ask this girl I liked to dance. About an hour into the dance, a girl from one of my classes came up and started talking to me, and then before I knew it, asked me to dance, grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dance floor. She was nice and very cute and I was dancing with her … and she asked ME. We danced for quite a few dances, and when it was over I felt pretty good about it. Her name was Jennifer, and why I remember it is because it was my first school dance. But more importantly, because she asked me … which impressed me, since most girls wait for the guys to do it all.

Those first dances are always nerve-wracking. Fast dances, because we dont know any steps … so we do the side to side thing. Slow dances are easier, but that means being really close, which can be nerve wracking on its own. It would take me forever to actually ask someone to dance, and I remember wanting to ask a certain someone to dance, and asking her friend instead, because it was easier.

Those are times I’ll always remember … I love dancing, by the way. Not really doing steps, but more just moving to the beat and acting goofy and having fun … that’s all dancing is anyway. My friend, Les, prefers doing dances with steps, like swing or salsa. I find those boring … he seems to think they are impressive. We agree to disagree..I dont have to dance with him.

The last few weeks have flown by … they really have. Maybe because I’m so busy, who knows.

My classes are nearly over, just about six or so more weeks to go. It’s also time to start planning out next semesters classes. A group of classmates from Spanish, want me to take another Spanish class with them..so I may just do that. I feel loved, and they are fun people, so what the heck. I also need to take one more class, from a list. Most are science classes … like chemistry, biology, etc. which I dont really enjoy, plus they require lab time which is out of the question … just can’t do it. So I may be taking some nutrition class, entry level all about vitamins and stuff. As long as it counts toward my courses I need … I’m fine.

I got an email today from a friend, J … that’s his name. Well, actually its really long and he goes by J, not Jay … just the letter J. Anyhow, he applied at the place I work for, Snowball.com.

Unfortunately, I dont have enough pull yet to do much about it, so he’s on his own. I’ll cross my fingers, and hope for the best. I’d absolutely love to have another friend working with me.

Tim of I Wasn’t Built to Get Up At This Time was my 600th visitor, so he’ll be recieving a shiny toaster.

err, I mean coaster and actually it’s not shiny … it’s kind of dull … I got it from a restaurant. Okay, okay … from Denny’s … it was under my decaf coffee. It’s made of cardboard. Hurray for Tim.

By the way, the new poll is dedicated to Tim … I think he’ll know what I’m referring to. To the next 600.

I passed on the flu shot this year. I did it last year, and got the flu for the first time in quite a few years. Basically, they are injecting a strain of the flu into your system, which is supposed to cause your body to build an immunity to it. The problem I have is if I’m perfectly healthy, why would I want to have a virus injected into me. Hmm … tell me that??

I know it might be hard to believe, but I was never good at sports in school … even now, I’m better at sitting on my ass watching them, than I am at participating in them. I make a great cheerleader … I can yell, “Go Team” and “Woohoo” with the rest of the lazy asses in the bleachers.

I was always chosen near the end, and usually when they chose me they said my name in that whiny way, “okay fine, I’ll have Greg … you take Bill”. I could barely hit a ball with a bat, and catching one was way too scary for me. I played soccer on a team for awhile, and was actually pretty good at it … dont know why I quit it.

One game I never understood was dodge-ball. Dont you think it’s a little aggressive. I mean the point is to take a ball, and throw it as hard as you can at someone else and if it hits them, they have to leave the game. So, I would actually run in front of the ball and get hit, so I would get to sit out. I dont need to win the damn game, I just need to survive it.

My best athletic accomplishment was in high school, when we had to climb a rope to the top of the gym ceiling … about thirty feet up. The gym teacher had pretty much written me off … because of a certain wresting thing we had to do and I was lame at it. I just feel that he wasn’t a good teacher … Macho gym teachers pretty much have trouble with skinny non-athletic kids. Anyhow, I figured I’d show him … so I climbed all the way up to the ceiling and even touched the top. I am so afraid of heights … but I had a little motivation. He was pretty surprised.

The female gym teachers were always really nice to me … for example, during our swimming class, the gym teacher put me in charge of teaching a small group of students to tread water and back float. She put me in charge of two girls, one of which I had been in love with for the entire school year. So there I am taking advantage of it. I had her backfloat, while I held her up. Just touching her made me crazy … her in her swimsuit all wet. Okay enough of that … anyhow, they ended up holding their breath under water and playing games for the rest of the period. That’s what memories are for.
