Plays Well With Others

Cute Girl, Clean Car.. What More Is There?

A little something in the news regarding the millennium,

“By common consent everybody decided that we ought to celebrate the millennium on January 1, 2000, even though most of the strict correctionists say that it’s January 1, 2001,” Clinton said. According to the Gregorian calendar, which begins the Christian era at year 1 A.D., the third millennium does not begin until 2001.

Just a little more to add to my proof that 2001 is the real start of the new millennium … not 2000.

What the hell do I have to do to get a journal of the day around here?

My scientific method tonight was to click on the random button in my Open Pages web ring … actually I had to click it about ten times before reaching one that was half way decent … and it didnt hurt that there was a pretty girl from Singapore on the opening page. The first one I clicked on hadnt updated in about a year..the next was extremely too long..followed by one that was all text … and then one that had ads popping up in new windows every five seconds … and, well, I think you know what I mean … so I ended up with a girl who won’t tell us her real name, who hasn’t updated in about four or five months … but seems like a decent writer … and might have some interesting archives.

So, there you have it … my super scentific method of choosing today’s journal of the day.. usually I take a little more time with it.

So..no one wants to describe Tim … see Tim, no one wants to describe you for a Christmas card autographed by me. So there you have it … how about you submit a drawing of Tim and I’ll send you a card … does that sound good?

Thank god for Krysten … she’s the only person to say she wanted a card for me. So now I dont feel bad.. because at least one person wants me to send them a Christmas card. It’s in the mail.

It really doesnt do much for one’s self esteem when no one answers my requests … do you all hear me?

I love a clean car. I spent the morning doing all my errands … Sunday stuff mostly. I got a hair cut.. buzz the back and the sides … leave the top alone.

Then I washed my car.. more than just spraying on water, and pouring soap on it.. It takes me over an hour to clean the car … I have to wash it, then vacuum the interior, spray and clean all the inside parts … wash the windows … it takes me forever, but its worth it to have a clean car. I’m almost fanatical about how clean it needs to stay..

I believe I am now offically finished with my christmas shopping. Here’s what I bought:

Some charms for the adults … they clip to the stem of the wine glass, so you dont lose your glass at a party.

Some pewter ornaments for friends and family.

A game and a book (by Julie Andrews) for the youngest cousin.

A shirt and sweater for the oldest cousin.

A sweater and playstation game for the middle cousin.

A really nice hot beverage keeper for my aunt.

A book and some ceramic kitchen things for my mom, along with half the cost of her dishwasher.

A WebTV console for my sister … she really needs to have some way to check her email, even if she doesnt want a computer.

My stepmother gets a nice scarf, and my father gets a little golf tools things.

That about does it for my christmas shopping and I couldnt be happier.

Talking to Krysten earlier on ICQ … I found a $10 gift certificate for Amazon.com that expires at the end of the month, so what juicy toy did I buy?

I bought Generation Barbie.. woohoo. “But I didnt know you collected Barbie’s, Greg??” Well, I dont, but I usually buy something to donate to a needy child at this time of year and so this will be it … the gift certificate covers the cost of shipping, so it’s still costing me about $20 or so … but more importantly it’ll make some little girl or boy (hey, we have to be fair) … very happy.

[Climbing up on the soap box, Tim used earlier … ] I think this is a good time of year to think of other people and so if you’d really like to do something worthwhile, I recommend you buy a toy and give it to a homeless shelter, or toy drive … or if its offered in your area, pull a name tag off one of those giving trees and give a gift to a needy child or family. At my last job, I was in charge of volunteer services and was always very excited to see the happy faces of kids who usually wouldnt get anything at christmas. So, when you are buying all those gifts this year … please take some time to think of those less fortunate. It doesnt have to be something big.

I remember some of the things the kids would ask for … color crayons and a few sheets of paper, or a book, or some socks because their feet were cold, or some school supplies because they didnt have any and they were made fun of in school, and some would ask for things for their siblings or parents … it’s very sad.. so please take some time out for others. [getting down off the soap box, stumbling and cracking my head open … I’m such a clutz!]

By the way, I wish you all a happy, safe holiday season … and be careful … and dont spend too much … and dont look at your radio in the car to change the station while you’re driving … and dont lose out on that prime toy because some old lady overpowered you, be sure to kick her in the shins … wear heavy shoes during the holiday.. you know those army boot ones, not only to keep your feet dry, but they hurt more when you kick someone in the shins..

reinvention – “tris”

I’m really glad that I’m moving in now, even though it’s the end of the semester, rather than right at the beginning. I have noticed a change in myself over the weeks. Remember the first few entries in August that I mentioned I cried out of frustration for a lot of stuff? I had been unhappy because I felt I couldn’t blend in with the people and was always alone. But the myriad activities that I took part over the weeks bonded me with a lot of people and I just feel really happy these days. I no longer find it a chore to smile at people I don’t know, or to make small talk. I don’t know what brought about these changes but I’m really glad about it. Had I moved in at the beginning when I was so negative about stuff, I would have moved out by now.

“Tris” has a very nice clean layout.. and although I had absolutely no time to actually read the content of her site.. what I did read sounded at least clear, which is more than I can say for alot of journals.

And it always helps to have a picture of a cute girl on the opening page … Katie knows all about that … I’m just kidding … lets not get that started up again.
