Plays Well With Others

… and so it ends.

So it’s finally here … the last day of the 1900’s … the end of another year, another decade, another century, and for those of you that need to believe it – another millennium. We all know that the next millennium begins on Jan. 1, 2001 … but I’ll just go along with y’all for the sake of the argument.

It’s so hard to put into words what 2000 signifies … I mean up til now … we’ve all lived in the 1900’s … the 80s, the 90s … how do you even say what we’ve entered? Is it the zeros, the 2000’s … or do we just keep saying the whole year for the next ten years … then what is it … the 10s.

I’m not sure I’m ready for such changes … seems a little drastic to me. Well, I guess we’ve had plenty of time to prepare ourselves for this … and now that it’s here … I’m just feeling a little strange.

Of course, this also means a whole new chapter in our lives … or maybe even a whole new book. A new beginning anyway you look at it … I mean this is your chance to start fresh … all those things you’ve put off … go ahead do them.

I was listening to a CD today, and the words “life is what happens while your busy making plans” came up. They were written by John Lennon, and if you really look at those words closely … maybe they’ll wake you up. It’s so easy to sit around and say “I wish” … or “someday I’ll” … knowing full well, you’ll never. I dont know what got me into this way of thinking suddenly … I think it’s a mixture of the end of the year and the movie I saw yesterday … “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. Seeing all those cool sites really made me think about how much I’d like to get over there … instead of working my life away … I dont want to end up like so many of our parents, and so many of my friends … who find it so easy to settle down, get married, have kids, and never go anywhere with there lives … they settle. Why settle?

So, the 1900’s are over … how can one summarize ones life and not sound lame. Well, I guess I’ll try …

I can barely believe I’m going into my fourth decade … I mean I was born in the 70’s, spent all of the 80’s in school, graduated in the 90’s and then spent my life working and going to school … so what will be the highlight of the 2000’s … good question. There are no footprints, it’s a clean slate and I can make of it what I want to.

I think I’m off to a good start … I have a new job that is very interesting … and has good possibilities … Beginning January, I’ll be finally able to look for a new place to live … and get my life moving again … I have high hopes for the next century … and I hope you do too.

and now for the part about my day … afterall that’s what this section is supposed to be for.

I finally got my Powerbook back and totally fixed … I am soooooooo excited … more about this than anything else … in fact, first thing I did was transfer all my site information to the Powerbook, and I’m now using it to make this final journal entry. Woohoo … big woohoo!!

I’ve also done some miscellaneous things around here … but think I’m getting a second case of illness … I have this terrible cough right now, that doesnt feel very good. I’m feeling fine overall, but the cough feel like a bronchial thing … so I’m a little worried.

It’ll be a night at home this New Years Eve …

I should also mention a little something about my sporadic entries the last few days … seems I’m having a little FTP problem, and ISP problem … dont know if it’s Y2K related … but I’m working on the glitches in the site.

For those of you on my notify list … I’m unable to use the list right now … it’s not working … in fact, my guestbook isn’t working either … I’ll keep checking on it, and will probably have to go through the cgi coding to check it out … as for now certain parts of the site are out of service … my apologies.

So the first place to celebrate the New Year was Millennium Island, a part of the nation of Tonga. They seemed pretty excited about it … even if they cheated by moving the their timezones around and changing daylight saving so they could be the first to have the new millennium … at least New Zealand played fair.

As far as I can tell … this Y2K stuff is a bunch of crap … well, it’s not the big disasterous end of the world that everyone tried to make it out to be …

I hope those people that now have fifty gallons of bottled water in their living rooms are feeling pretty stupid right now … maybe they can water some plants … or the lawn or something.

Who the hell wants to visit a site on the last day of the century?? Here are pics of what other people saw on December 31st, 1999. All my best for a happy, exciting Year 2000.
