Plays Well With Others

A night with Tim, Krysten, and Katie …

Well, like I said yesterday, I got home very early this morning … and when I get home late/early, that usually means I’ll end up waking up very late the next day …

Well, today I didnt get up until noon.. way too much of the day wasted if you ask me … but I did still get a few things done today.

I got up and went straight to Home Depot to buy a few pieces of lumber … see, besides being the web guru extraordinairre, and part time Luuuuuuuuuurve Doctor to Tim, I also do wood work on the side … it’s a nice change from sitting in front a computer all day long.

Today’s project was a long planter box for the yard.. there is an area in the yard near the fence that needed a planter box, something simple … and since I had a bunch of redwood left over from the deck I built, I figured why not use it up. The Home Depot trip took wasn’t as bad as it usually is.. picked up some screws and a redwood post, and was out of their about $25 lighter than when I went in … not horribly bad … I’ve left hundreds of dollars lighter sometimes.

The best part of doing wood working projects is that I get to use my power tools … grr grr grr (insert Tim Allen grunting sounds here … ). Power tools … power saw, power screwdriver … ah, manliness at it’s finest. Nothing like a power tool to give you that masculine feeling.. ouch, I stubbed my toe.

Anyhow, I had four planks left from the deck, which meant I could make the planter box two planks high and about two feet deep … and eleven inch high planter box was perfect. All in all it took about an hour to get it all put together.. not bad for an afternoon. There is some stuff that still needs to be done, like putting a bottom on it, raising it off the ground a little, and sealing it so it doesnt rot … but that can wait for another day.

The weather got a little rainy looking, so I had to come in and play on the web, er I mean work on some projects. 🙂

I was actually updating another website, that is becoming increasingly popular.. Freaks and Geeks (watch it on Monday night at 8PM, NBC), when I became involved in an ICQ thing with Tim and Krysten and later, Katie. So what do four intelligent, internet savvy individuals talk about on ICQ? Hmm … the meaning of life, HTML, maybe, a little discussion on Leo Tolstoy’s famous book …

WRONG!!! We chatted about poopoo heads, and fanny’s. I think it was more Tim, seeing as how it was, for him, nearly 3AM. See, if you are going to chat with Tim, do it at that time of the morning … it’s tons of fun.

Actually I entered a conversation between Tim and Krysten, and they were avoiding showing each other their photos … which I dont really see what the big deal is … you all know what I look like, it’s all over my journal. Well, when you ask Krysten or Tim for a photo this is what you’ll get …

So, Krysten gives me a picture of her as a youngin’ and well, Tim gives us a photo of half his head, and are those eye’s or just dark pits … well, I did promise that if they do ever show me their photos, I wouldnt post them here, and I intend to keep that promise, so dont come to me for a peek at Tim or Krysten, you can take that up with them …

By the way, if you want to see what we chatted about, I’m sure Tim is going to embarass us all by posting it … although I’d really rather he didn’t, I just feel that he’ll do what he wants.

There is something about chatting with people and then having them post it online that just screams.. not nice. I mean not that I care whether you read it or not, but when you are chatting, it’s nice to know your doing it in private, just having fun … when someone posts it, then you suddenly feel like you can’t chat online anymore, without having it posted … I suppose I wont use the chat feature anymore … I feel violated.

Childhood Experience of the Night: I was never really good at anything extracurricular … I mean music wasn’t my thing, sport werent my thing. I was good at computers, like you wouldnt have guessed that, but that doesnt really seem extracurricular.

On the music scene, I tried to play trumpet in elementary school, but with an old asthma condition, anything that involved breathing into a tube was out of my range … so I tried guitar, now guitar wasn’t so bad, and I actually was okay at it.. but after awhile you start to develop calluses on your finger tips, which affected my computer typing … hmm, do I sound like a geek or a wimp? Well, in middle school, in an attempt to solve my musically challenged abilities, I joined on as the person playing the bells or xylophone. That was really fun, and if you know piano, then you can definately read the music … but there was something just not me about playing bells. Even saying “I play the bells” sounds a little, er, not masculine about it … not that there is anything wrong with that, just I was getting a complex … so I figured music was out, I still want to learn the piano, however, so someday I’ll have to do that.

Anyhow, sports was another area I was not good at … you know the kid that people pick last, well, I was usually standing next to him. They would grudginly say, “Okay, I guess I’ll take Greg, but you take Bill” … there is something that always made me think, “hmm, at least I’m not Bill”. Of course that’s like saying, at least I’m not scum, I’m just the bacteria on it. So, being as bad as I was at sports, I was still a part of a soccer team, and did pretty well at it. I mean as long as I stayed out of the way. I could kick the ball and make it in the net, but I was never good at having the ball hit me in the head or elbow. I did look nifty in my shorts and soccer shoes though. All other team sports just dont interest me. I mean, I can shoot a basketball into a hoop, just can’t dribble it. I can pitch a baseball, just can’t hit it.. and can catch a baseball in a mitt, just can’t slide into home base. I’m much better at singular non-competitive sports, skiing, golf, etc … you know, grown-up sports.

So, while I was the intellectual one in the family, my sister was the one that was extracurricular. She was on a baseball team, she was on the spirit squad, all that extracurricular stuff.. of course in high school, I was extracurricular by being on the school spirit comittee organizing dances, rallies and other activities … if you can call that extracurricular, and I was a cub scout and a school crossing guard (the captain of the squad).

… and thats my story about how extracurricularly challenged I was, making that my childhood experience of the night.
