Plays Well With Others

I Wasn’t Built To Get Up At THAT Time!

Why would I steal, erm, borrow Tim’s journal title and use it as my own? Well, it pretty much sums up why I finally missed an entry yesterday. If Katie and I were still doing the contest, I’d have finally lost. Luckily, she lost after four days, so my missing an entry doesn’t hurt quite so much. I was told, that if I lost I’d have to make a page dedicated to Katie, which wasn’t as bad as what Tim suggested; that’s I’d have to, for one day only, make my entire page look like one of those GeoCities pages. You know the ones, they are in all text, usually yellow text, on some rainbow colored background, with ads popping up every two seconds, and even if you close them they popup some more. I gasped in horror at this and vowed to not lose the contest, not that I really had to follow what Tim said, but more to not lose the contest.

So, I finally missed an entry, because I Wasn’t Built to Get Up At THAT Time …

Saturday morning, I had to get up at 6AM, on a cold and rainy day to rush on over to the new apartment and pickup the keys from the new landlord. I got up at the crack of dawn, literally dragged myself out of bed, threw some jeans and sweatshirt on, as well as a baseball cap and dragged my ass on over to the apartment, where I sat and waited for fifteen minutes for everyone to arrive.

The landlord and his wife arrived, and they let me into the apartment, where we waited for Kara to arrive. I did a brief walkthrough of the apartment and when Kara arrived, we took care of the financials and were on our way to begin our move in.

The landlords are extremely nice. The wife, moreso, because she was a little more lenient about all the paperwork and stuff. She basically said that if we were going to be late with a payment, just to call and let them know, and it would be no big deal. Also, she said that we should change the electric bill into our names, but we could wait a week for that; her husband wanted it done immediately, but she talked him down. I think it’s going to be great, and if it’s not, well, you’ll hear about it in here.

Kara began moving in right away, and managed to move in half of her stuff the same day. Meanwhile I only managed to move in all of my kitchen stuff, moreso, to give her something to use.

Today, she moved in the rest of her stuff and I moved in just a few more boxes. I probably won’t actually move in for a week, while Kara has no choice but to move in today. She’ll be sleeping in a dark, cold apartment.

I felt sorry for her, and tried to stay as late as I could just to keep her company but I ended up having to leave. I helped her moved her futon mattress into the living room, so she could sleep next to the fireplace. When I finally get all my living room furniture moved in, it’ll be much more comfortable.

Beside moving in, I spent my day doing household repairs and checks. Because we’ll be signing the lease tomorrow, I did a check of the apartment so we could bring some things up to the landlord.

Since it’s been raining extremely hard the last couple of days, we checked for leaks and found one, which is more like a gush than a leak. Seems our kitchen window as a problem at the top. There is a stream of water coming down the window and all over the floor. I think it’s not as easy as replacing the window though since the wood above the window is rotted, so it looks like it’ll be quite the repair job, but that’s not my problem. It’s for the landlord to fix.

We also wanted a mantel above our fireplace, since it’s just flat, so I bought a shelf and will hang it sometime next week. Other little things included rerouting the cable wire since the last tenants had it nailed all over the wall and doors and stuff. To me, very tacky; so I’ll fix it so it doesnt show as much. I mean if you are going to steal cable, at least dont make it obvious to everyone that visits.

I’ve mentioned how Les is also moving, and so in the middle of my moving, I had to run over to his house and help move a computer desk and his computer and all the miscellaneous stuff attached to it.

I mentioned how I had to wake up at the crack of dawn yesterday. Well, I spent the whole day moving and then just when I thought I would be able to get some rest, I got a call from Les saying that Cindy was going to be around and they wanted to go out. I was quite ready to say no, but because I hadn’t seen her since they became engaged, and because I’m probably going to be their best man, I felt obligated to go out.

I brought them over to the apartment, to show them around in the dark, and then we had something to eat, since I hadnt eaten all day. We ended up at Lyons, since it was the only things open at 10 at night within driving distance. We ended up being out until midnight, at which time I got home and immediately fell into bed, not to wake up until 10AM the next morning and start moving all over again …

By the way, I’ll probably bring back the Childhood Experience thing, but I’m just so busy right now, that trying to think up anecdotes is just too much work, so I hope you all understand.

Today’s question of the day submission is from Amber. She submitted it using the question box in the right hand column, so feel free to ask your own questions to me, where I’ll answer it in the journal.. I usually answer anything, so feel free.

Amber’s question was related to an accident she recently had, where she sprained her ankle, and she asked whether I had ever sprained or broken an ankle, and how long it takes to heal?

I’ve never broken a bone in my body, knock on simulated wood. I’ve also never sprained an ankle badly enough to require a hospital visit. I’ve stubbed toes; does that count? Nah, when I was younger I was walking on some lawn and didnt see one of those metal sprinkler heads that sticks out of the ground about a foot (do they have those anymore?). I think it was used to spray shrubbery or something. (reminds me of that Tom Green commerical for bigwords.com, shrubbery, shrubbery.)

Anyhow, I didnt see the metal rod and tripped on it. It hit me in the shin, tearing off all the skin and muscle tissue, so all you could see was bone. It really hurt and I still have a scar, but I dont believe it needed a hospital visit.

Also, I had a pinched nerve in my neck. If you’ve ever had a pinched nerve, it’s the most painful thing you can experience. I wore a neck brace for a week, I didnt move out of a chair in the living room and even slept sitting in the chair. Any little movement of my neck would be so excrutiatingly painful, I’d die. So, I lived in a chair for a week, not moving muscle. It’s exactly how I imagine a paraplegic to feel like.

Hmm, what else. I constantly get back pains and legs pains, I feel are related to working in a grocery store. Even though I was a bookkeeper, they often forced me to stock shelves and lift heavy boxes when I had down time. All the lifting, ruined my back, and now every so often I’ll get that pinced nerve feeling in my back. The pain starts in my lower back and shoots down my leg, causing me to have to grab onto something or I’d fall down. It’s horrible, and is often aggravated when I do alot of lifting or strenuous work. I could easily have to use a cane during these episodes, but I dont really like walking with a cane and looking like an old person. Right now, I’m feeling a little pain in my back as I type this.

So, to answer Amber’s question, I haven’t sprained or broken an ankle, but I imagine if it’s a sprain it could take up to a month to get back to normal, as long as you arent walking on it or putting strain on it. However, if it’s a break, the bones could take a bit longer to heal, meaning a couple of months of not using it.

Here’s something funny I hear about wearing a cast. I’ve been told that when they take the cast off, your limb is really skinny and white. Like the arm with the cast would be really white and thin, while the other arm would look normal and regular, so you’ll look a little funny. Also, because you didnt use the limb, it’s going to be really weak.

Get well, soon Amber. And if anyone has a question for me, please feel free to ask. If it’s about me I’ll answer it, if it’s about something else, I’ll do my best.
