Plays Well With Others

The Best Man …

Have you ever heard the term, “Always the bridesmaid, never a bride”? Well, I’m the male counterpart of that, “Always the groomsman, never the groom”, or something like that.

Les came by last night and asked me to be his best man for when he gets married. Of course, I’ll do it, but he didnt ask me until after about two stressful hours of other conversation.

See, he was figuring that since he just got engaged a month ago, that he had until at least August or so, at the earliest, until the actual wedding would happen. He was talking to Cindy last night and she mentioned how she wanted to get married in May. Of THIS year, like in three months!

Well, to say the least, Les is totally shocked and surprised and, now, stressed out. Seems that since Cindy returned from Tonga, at the end of December, she’s been living with her parents and doesnt think she can live there much longer, and May is as long as she thinks she could make it. What this has to do with getting married so quickly, I dont know.

Les’ plans were for Cindy to find a job, then for the both of them to combine their money and find a place they could both live in (yes, Les just moved out into his own place), and then once they were all settled, they could think about planning a wedding.

Cindy’s plans are the complete opposite. She doesnt want to get a job until September, since she’s a teacher and school doesnt start until then, prior to that they’d find a place to live, and in May they’d be getting married.

Here’s where the Luuuuuuuurve Doctor comes in. See Tim, I’m not only your Luuuuuuurve Doctor … everyone comes to The GMan for advice on something I know the least about.

My advice was for the two of them to just slow down a bit. Cindy just came back from her Peace Corps Tonga stint in December, after two years away from Les and everyone else. Early January, they became engaged, Les moved out, and they are trying to still tell people they are engaged. Here is February, and they are talking weddings. I can see Les is totally stressed out about this, and although he says he’s fine with it, I know him too well, and I can see he’s feeling alot of pressure.

I told him that they they shouldn’t get married for at least six more months at the very least, giving them time to get their housing situation together, for Cindy to find a job and they could get their finances together and once that’s all settled, they could think about planning a wedding.

The other option, I didnt really like, was for them to elope and then have the big wedding in about six months or so. The problem with that, is that her parents and his mom are going to be really disappointed that they didnt have the big wedding right away. So there is really no way to win.

I think it’s all happening way to soon.. I dont really know what the big deal is to get married so quickly is for her. I asked about the pregnancy issue, and Les said that’s totally not it. So, it’s just some issue.. who knows. All marriage is is a piece of paper right now, so my suggestion is to wait until they can mutually agree on a time.

I made dinner for the first time in the apartment. Kara made dinner last night, a tuna casserole, but because of an already upset stomach, I didnt eat any, instead opting for Fruity Pebbles.

My dinner consisted of an oriental salad with a sesame dressing, terriyaki chicken, and a noodle dish in a cream sauce. I think it was quite yummy, and a good way for my introduction to cooking on an electric stove.

By the way, if anyone knows how to heat a tortilla on an electric stove let me know. I have no clue. On a gas burner, I usually just toss the tortilla onto the burner and then flip it and it’s heated up. But with an electric burner, the things will totally flame up and catch on fire.

My favorite snack is tortillas with mexican cheese (casero cheese). It’s like a skim milk, very white, crumbly cheese.. you might like it, you might not, but its great on frijoles.

I got a mystery tape in the mail yesterday. A plain brown catalog envelope with a VCR tape in it. So I popped it into the VCR expecting an infomercial and instead was pleasantly surprised to find an unseen episode of Freaks and Geeks.

The episode was dropped by NBC because it was considered too racey for primetime, but someone sent me the producers cut of the tape and now it’s my job to distribute the “underground” copy to all other F&G fans.

So, via the fan site, I’m getting the word out.

I missed last Wednesday’s spanish class, so tonight I’ll be attending it once again. I’m actually wishing I didnt have classes at this point, but it gives me something to do, so I’m sure it’ll be just fine.

By the way, if anyone emailed me in the last week or tried to get ahold of me, I’m slowly working through emails and trying to respond to everyone.

As for Tim, I finally *GOT* was Zed was talking about when she said, she was following Tim’s orders to tell me to update my page.

Going through emails today, I found Tim’s notify list message dated Jan. 30th stating “And everybody email G and tell him to update his web page, God damn-it!”

Good to know Tim luuuuuuuuurve’s me and misses me when I’m gone. 🙂

I built a music store today, so go check it out and buy a CD from my store.
