Plays Well With Others

During the hiatus – Day 6

So, I just spent a great weekend doing nothing, and enjoying it. Really, the weather was so beautiful this weekend, and all I did was enjoy it. I have a pile of laundry to do, piles of paperwork to go through and cleaning to do, and I opted to forget about all of that and enjoy the sunny weather.

It was so luxurious.

Saturday, I took a drive down Hwy. 1 to Santa Cruz. Thats a about an hour drive down one of the most gorgeous highways known to man. If you ever get the chance, take a drive down Hwy. 1. It runs along the oceanside, California coastline. The entire way, you are on a one to two lane road, with the ocean on one side of you and mountains and trees on the other. Simply gorgeous.

So let me start the day at the beginning. I woke up (yeah, I do that from time to time) and got dressed and took a mile long walk to the Long’s up the street, a very long street. I had to pick up a few things, and thought it was ridiculous for me to jump into my car when its such a nice day and its not that big a walk. Plus, I live in an area full of really nice homes, so I can walk and look at the houses and try to peek in their windows as I walk by. Now, I’m not being a peeping tom or anything, like pressing my face on their windows. But if the drapes are open its fun to see what peoples houses look like. At least for me.

So, I was crossing the street or at least waiting to and this really, really old lady is making the turn in her humongous Cadillac at about 2 miles per hour. I swear I was standing on that corner for about ten minutes while she made that turn. I dont understand why old people who are about three feet tall have to have the absolute largest car made. I dont even think this lady could see over the steering wheel. And isn’t there some kind of test she would have to pass in order to keep her license. Argh … I just dont understand.

So, I arrived at Longs picked up some sunscreen and some bandaids, because I ran out of bandaids and am constantly cutting myself. The sunscreen is because I’ve been working so much I lost my pigment. Well, now I sound albino or something. I actually just haven’t been in the sun for so long, that I dont have a tan anymore. Okay, okay, I had a tan when I was younger, but someone I lost it.

The days plan was to take a book and sit in the sun and read it. I didnt know where I was going, just to some beach and read a book. What happened was that I jumped in the car and drove to Santa Cruz. Basically, I never stopped, I just kept driving and driving, because it was such a nice day. I did get out in Half Moon Bay to grab a bite to eat. Did you know McDonalds has a new burger? the big deal or something. I dont know what it is, maybe like a whopper or something. Anyhow, you can tell what lunch was. I actually ate while I was driving.. nice and healthy.

I got to Santa Cruz and walked around for a bit, then took it on home. I pulled over on the side of the highway for about half an hour and just watched the sailboats and the sun and the birds. It was very peaceful, well if the cars weren’t whizzing by behind me it would have been very peaceful.

So, I spent an entire day just driving and sightseeing. It’s kind of nice to sightsee in your own area, you notice alot of things you usually dont pay attention to. I also think I’m 1% more tan than when I left in the morning. So the day wasn’t wasted. You’ll hardly recognize me with my 1% tan. I can just hear my coworkers, wow greg, did you get some sun, you look like George Hamilton.

Also, on my way home, I got a call from my friends inviting me over for day after St. Patricks day dinner. So, I headed over to their house after my big journey for the day and had corned beef, potatoes and carrots with a sugery syrup sauce on them. We also watched “Lost in Space” on DVD. I’d already seen it, but what the hell, it’s something to watch. It really was one of those great days, where nothing at all is accomplished, but you feel really great at the end of it.

Sunday was more of a enjoy the day, but get things done also type of day. The weather was still nice, but windier than I like. I had to help my mom with some of her gardening also, which I dont mind, but not in 80mph winds. I find that pulling weeds, little weeds can be very therapeutic. I’m not talking about an entire backyard full of five foot high weeds, but little tiny weeds arent that bad to pull out. I also took her to a nursery I found in Half Moon Bay. She likes things like that. I’ve been trying to at least go by once a week if not every other week so she knows I’m still alive.

Well, that was my exciting weekend, hope yours was good also.
