Plays Well With Others

When Will I Use This?

Seems like an entry every other day is all I can handle. Friday went by rather quickly. Got in, got paid, got my bagel and before I knew it the day was over. I’m not a rich millionaire quite yet as far as the stock goes, but I can’t touch it for six month anyway due to vesting periods.

It’s funny everyone is coming up to me concerned because the stock didnt go through the roof on the first day. I have to keep explaining that it takes time for good stock to grow, plus I can’t touch any of mine for about six months, so I dont really care what happens with it for now, as long as in six months its really doing good.

This is my reader friend, Amber. She’s been reading my journal for a long time, but only recently have I been chatting with her more often on ICQ, so again, it’s nice to have a face to match with a, erm, an ICQ, I guess.

Anyhow, Amber is sweet and I even spoke to her mom once through ICQ. So everyone say hi to Amber.

And again, if you want to send me a photo, just let me know. I’m really excited to get this much of a response to having my readers send me their photos so I can meet them. Even Zed said she’d send me one, right Zed.

I haven’t been able to chat with ‘french girl’ because she’s going through a family emergency. So, while we try to chat as often as possible, it just hasn’t been possible. Not to mention that since my company went public, I’ve been working just that much more.

This is one of the main reasons I dont get involved in relationships, because I end up working so much, that it just isnt fair to the other person. I mean, people deserve attention and to be the main focus in a relationship, and I just can’t do that at this point in my life. Thirty years from now, if I’m still in this journal, maybe I’ll be ready and you are all virtually invited to the wedding.

A little “Freaks and Geeks” update for those of you interested. Well, last time I explained how the show had been cancelled. The numb nuts at NBC decided it wasn’t making money for them. Well, duh, I mean if you air it twice and preempt it every two weeks for a month, and then dont advertise it and market it to the wrong people, I wonder how it couldnt be financially viable.

So, a word from Judd, the producer, says that other network including cable are looking at the show to show the last few episodes and then maybe even to buy a second season. Which is great news for all of us Freaks and Geeks out there. We have to support the little guy you know.

So, I dont know if any of you ever wondered this, but I know plenty of people I went to school with did. Are we ever going to actually use any of the stuff we learned in school?

Well, the answer is clearly no. That is, unless you go on that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Show. I mean they ask all those trivial questions, but in real life you wont use three quarters of the stuff you are forced to sit through in school.

How often do I use Physical Education in the real world? Well, that would be never, except maybe those team building skills they were supposed to be teaching me. But you know what, I never learned team building skills in PE. The teacher usually focused on those students who could actually do the sport, and kind of let the rest of us just fool around trying. No team building skills there.

How about the sciences or Biology or History? Hmm, can’t say I use any of those. I mean my job involves planting my fat ass in a chair and working on a computer. The only time I’m mixing liquids is when I’m cooking. And as far as all that history I had to take, well it was a big waste of my time.

So, what was actually useful in my life. Well, basic math skills are useful, you know the ones you learn in second grade. You know that Trigonometry and Calculus class you took? Well, good luck find a purpose for that. English is very useful, because writing reports and speaking to people is alot easier when you have good grammar and can actually write. Of course any classes you take as a part of a major are useful, but dont count on having to actually use your diploma for anything. I mean, its great and all to have your Bachelor or Masters degree hanging up somewhere, but dont ever expect to have to prove you have one. No one asks for it.

So, I’m not trying to discourage anyone from giving it there all, but just dont let your teachers and parents try to tell you that you’ll actually use the stuff, because you wont use the majority of it.

Talking to Amber about the dances we had to learn in PE and I’m sure you all remember the square dancing. I had to do square dancing twice for PE, once in sixth grade and once in middle school. I dont think teachers should be allowed to teach any form of dancing to students.

In sixth grade we not only had to learn the square dancing, but also had to learn break dancing. I mean if that isnt a bit of a stretch. I’ve heard break dancing is back. Or maybe it’s out again, and it was back a few months ago, I just can’t keep track. Anyhow, jumping on your head and spinning on it, is a good reason its called break-your-neck dancing.

In middle school, we were taught not only square dancing, but also what they called current dancing. I swear they had us doing disco. It’s the late 80’s and we are doing disco in our class. I just dont thing teachers should be allowed to make us dance. That’s all.
