Plays Well With Others

Another Awards Show …

As I type this, the Academy Awards is starting. Another awards show, another chance for someone to win an award. The funny thing is, is that this is actually one I watch, and thank god Billy Crystal is back. But I’ll talk more about that a little later.

First, for everyone, including myself that got booted from my own webring, well I figured out how to put everyone back in. So, if you have the links on your page you can just leave them as is. It’s my webring and I can do whatever I want. If for some reason you get booted again, just let me know.

Also, if you would take a chance to visit those twelve sites it would be great. There really are some good ones in there. Zed’s Easy As Nuclear War is always nice to see, and I even shamed her into putting me on her cast page. We’ll be hearing more from Zed shortly. Also, we have Krysten of Hey Jane Remember Second Grade that I used to chat with quite a bit on ICQ. And of course, Japanese Paper Lanterns by Amber, whose photo is in the last entry. A few others worth visiting are located at the list for the webring.

Today I spent the better part of the day washing my car. It feels like it’s been ages since I really did a good washing. See, I’ve been running it through the car wash at the gas station the last few times for speed, but today I actually scrubbed the floor mats, washed the windows inside and out and vacuumed every nook and cranny. Ah, it feels so clean.

I’m kind of strange when it comes to the cleanliness of the car. When its dirty, it kind of depresses me, but when its clean I’m totally happy and everything is good with the world.

Like I said, it’s strange.

So, even as the Academy Awards are on, I’m multitasking. Im watching the show and chatting with “french girl” at the same time. This could be considered our first time watching television together.

Since no one is here right now for me to chat the awards up with, it’s great to have someone on the other end of the line to virtually watch the show with. Of course we are also chatting about other things.

My mom bought one of those Fantom hepa vacuums. She’s been wanting one of those for ages, and finally bought one. The reason I bring this up is because I was over there today cleaning my car and she came running out to me to see if I wanted to watch her vacuum.

Me: Erm, well, not really.
Mom: Well, you have to see all the dirt it picks up. You can see it spinning around in there.
Me: Hmm, really, that sounds exciting.
Mom: Come on, you really have to see this.
Me: I really dont want to, but if you insist its as exciting as all that, then get me a front row seat.
Mom: Good.

Mom always wins these things, because she’s can hold out longer than I can. See, she can nag and nag until I break down and just do it so it’ll be over with. To say the least, the sucking action on that thing was marvelous, but I really didnt have to sit and watch it suck all that shit up. Just makes you think about how much crap you are living in.

Tomorrow, I have a flash class to attend. I have to wake up at the crack of dawn, perhaps even before dawn cracks and get my ass over to the BART station. By the way, BART is the train system for San Francisco. I have to be at the class at 6AM and the BART station is two blocks from the place. I dont know how I’ll do it, but I have to get there, wait in line and get my badge for class and get in by 9AM. The class will last all day and will be over at 5PM. I think it’s going to be a long day, so hopefully I’ll be a Flash expert by the time it’s over. It also means a day off of work.

So, what the Oscars makes me think of more than anything else, is about what movies I’ve missed. I mean there are so many movies out there and I’ve probably seen only a handful of them. And watching this show makes me realize how I missed Cider House Rules, Girl Interrupted and Magnolia. I can’t judge if they were great or not, because I never saw them.

Also, I dont really buy movies. I mean I have a DVD player, but I dont usually buy movies because there are only so many times I plan on seeing one. My friends buy all their movies and then watch them 500 times, I on the other hand rarely see a movie more than once or twice. Anybody have any ideas for movies you think are so great that they are buyable movies, something to actually buy and keep forever.

A couple of final thoughts for everyone. First on the Oscars, I’ve always been fascinated by the entertainment industry. I’d love to be one of those reporters on the red carpet talking to the stars, or to be a writer for a magazine interviewing celebrities, I always found that whole world so interesting. And working with the television show Freaks and Geeks lately has made me even more interested in the whole experience. I was even put in an article recently.

My second thought was more of a gripe. This little girl upstairs plays the same four notes of the Titanic theme song over and over for hours and hours. It’s giving me a headache. The piano is so loud and she doesnt ever finish the god damn song. Okay, that’s my final thought.
