Plays Well With Others

Could I have some

Could I have some more, suh

I went out today and found something very odd about our department store. Actually, a few stores in my area. They are only running half the lights in the stores because of the energy shortage. Its really weird.

I went to a hardware store to buy some picture hanging wire and found it to be darker than usual. As I headed to the back of the store, I could barely see what I was looking at. I started feeling around for the wire I wanted on the shelf and found boxes and boxes of it. I then grabbed a few headed up to the front and checked out what I’d grabbed. The same was true for the department store, except there, they turned off the down escalator. Not the up one, just the down one. I guess we could just hurl ourselves off the platform and land somewhere near the bottom of the thing.

Here’s a funny thing. Have you ever walked down an escalator. I’ve walked down hundreds, maybe thousands of staircases in my life but for some reason, walking down the the escalator with no power, made me feel like I was going to fall or trip. I gripped the rubber handrails and slowly descended the steps until I reached the bottom, with this fear that the thing would suddenly turn on and I’d go flying.

Anyhow, I’m now in debt to Wifey™ for another days worth of power. Seems Canada is having a great year of selling power, while those of us in California have to sit in near total darkness. I’m sure glad that I’m paying so much in rent to live here.

On another note, the job hunting is going as well as can be expected. I’ve probably sent out over a hundred resumes and its obviously not a priority to the folks that are hiring because it takes them weeks to respond. About a week ago I sent a resume to Yahoo and just today I got a thank you note from them telling me they’d get in touch if they found a match. Probably the kiss of death. I’ve also been in touch with coworkers who’ve been helping me get a foot in the door. Today the Vice President of Product Management called up a friend of his and she is forwarding my resume to someone in her company. Everything helps in the Silicon Valley.

So, how am I holding up being unemployed. Well, I’ve told most of the people I know not to bring up the jobsearch subject around me for awhile mainly because it gets sort of redundant having to answer the same questions. Not to mention it get depressing having to constantly explain how I haven’t heard from anyone yet. I’m pretty positive that I’ll find something and I’m able to pay the bills through February,so there is really no need to start worrying two or three weeks in to the unemployment deal. My theory is to just enjoy the time off and get some chores done that need to be done. No more whining about wanting time off.

Tonight is my first French class, so I’ll be vous le vousing all night long, and when the homework starts, I’ll ask Wifey™ for some help. Tomorrow is my Geography class and then I’ve got the rest of the week to myself.
