Plays Well With Others

I’ve been busy …

Wifey™ just finished spending a week with me in San Francisco. We packed quite a bit into the weeklong visit, and even managed to spend some time to ourselves.

It all started out early Saturday morning, when Wifey™ woke me up at 5AM to let me know she’d made it to the airport and was ready for her first-ever flight. She later told me that the flight had to turn around because they didnt put enough fuel in it and even had to de-ice the plane, but showering it with a thick orange gel like substance. The plane dripping with the orange stuff, it took off on its way to San Francisco.

I arrived at the airport about half an hour before she was due to land. I’d brought along a single white rose and waited patiently for the Air Canada flight to touch down. An hour behind schedule, at about 1:20PM, her flight arrived and I saw her enter the waiting area. After hugging and grabbing her bags, we headed to my house.

We unpacked her bags and headed to my mom’s house, for the initial meetings with my mom and sister and spend a couple of hours there talking and letting them get to know each other. It was nice. We then headed out to Olive Garden, because Wifey™ had seen a commercial and wanted to try it out. Our dinner was very good, including some of San Francisco’s famous Sourdough bread. After dinner we headed home and fell asleep rather early, getting ready for our big day on Sunday … . meeting the family.

Sunday arrived and, after taking a ride up the coast along Highway 1, we arrived at mom’s house and got ready to meet my entire family in one big swoop. Aunts and uncles and cousins, along with family friends all came together for one simple reason … to meet Wifey™. We ended up playing the game “Cranium”, which really helped break the ice. Everyone liked Wifey™ and we all had a bunch of fun.

Monday we were scheduled to travel to Oregon to visit one of Wifey™’s friends. We left bright and early to catch our flight and after and hour and a half we landed in Portland. We were greeted by Wifey™’s friend and her boyfriend, and arrived at their house. To our dismay, the trip wasn’t exactly a success. Wifey™ and her friend had fun, but her boyfriend was a jerk and really made of mess of the trip. We also slept on a futon that was hard as a rock, making our night sleepless near Seattle. We were more than happy to get out of there the next day. Its unfortunate that we had to waste that day on them, rather than spending it just the two of us.

Tuesday we managed to get home around noon, and spent some time at home before heading to Macy’s to register for our wedding. You can all check it out at Macys.com and see what we got. It took us about three hours to go through the store and by the time we finished we were more than happy to get out of there. A person can only look at so much before you lose your mind. The night led us to a dinner with two of my friends. Again, the night was a success, and they really liked Wifey™.

Wednesday was Wifey™’s day with my mom and sister, so I stayed home and took care of some studying for a test that night, while they went out for pedicures and lunch. All that girly stuff was a nice break for Wifey™ and my mom and sister to get to know each other.

Thursday was a very special day because we got a special surprise in the email. The email said that Wifey™’s wedding dress had arrived and was ready to be picked up. We actually didnt expect it until April, so for Wifey™ to be able to try it on was really an added bonus to our trip. I didnt get to see any of it on her, but she said its really nice and took pictures to show all her people back home. That night was a dinner with my father and his wife, along with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. Dinner at a mexican restaurant went well and everyone got along pretty well. Everyone loved Wifey™. This was also the day we headed into downtown San Francisco to take care of our Immigration paperwork.

Friday was a day just for ourselves. We headed into the wharf area of San Francisco and took a Bay Cruise. It was pretty cool to go right under the Golden Gate Bridge and go up close to Alcatraz and then near the Bay Bridge. We also took a drive down Lombard, the crookedest street in the world. Wifey™ liked all of these sites and took pictures of anything we passed along the way. Chinatown was also one of our fun stops and then we headed out to dinner at the Vans in Belmont, the location of our wedding reception. The food is absolutely wonderful and the view is breathtaking.

Saturday was a day to ourselves again. We did a little bit of shopping and driving around but nothing too extreme. We really just wanted to relax and enjoy each other before she headed out on Sunday.

Sunday we headed out around 11:30AM and after eating lunch, headed to the Air Canada terminal to wait for her flight out. We had our tears and tried to focus on the good parts, but its always tough having to say goodbye. We know we’ll be together for good in about five months, but no matter how much you say it, it doesnt take away the fact that we wont be together for five months.

So, that was what I was doing last week.
