Plays Well With Others

I Wasn’t Built to … erm,

I Wasn’t Built to … erm, forget it …

I’ve been a busy boy lately and so I’m sorry for not sharing it with you all. I’ve probably had three or four interviews scheduled within last week and this coming week combined.

I guess I should explain that I’ve been unemployed since January 10th. I think I mentioned it before, but in case anyone has forgotten, there you go. Thats the day that Snowball.com decided that some more of us were ‘expendable’. Actually, I dont feel badly because I was part of the third round of layoffs, which means we werent as expendable as those in the first two rounds, but more expendable than those that are the leftovers. In a way I’m lucky because I was able to get a month of severance pay, unlike the leftovers that probably wont even get a last paycheck. I mean, face it, once a place goes belly up, it probably means the money aint in the bank anymore.

Anyhow, the last two months I’ve spent sending out resume after resume with few results. I’m sure those of you that are following the news realize that companies arent exactly hiring lately. Layoffs is the big word, especially in the Silcon Valley where I live.

Well, the last few weeks have picked up a bit and I’ve found that I’ve been getting a few more call backs than before. Thats a good sign. Of course that means going out on the interviews, getting asked a million questions by people, so they can judge you and figure out if they like you or not. And … in my field, there are the tests. See, unlike some jobs where they just hire you, in the field of design, they actually test you on the software to see if you know it. One of them actually had the lady stand over me and watch everything I was doing … I just kept telling her that she was making me nervous. Who the hell wants to work somewhere where they are standing over you anyway.

Well, my big dillema now is a second interview I have coming up. The office is located in Sacramento, two hours from where I live. Of course, if I get the job, it will mean moving. The plus is that it costs less to live up there, the negative part is that moving is a big deal and I’d have to do it in two weeks … that means finding a place and packing all my shit up in two weeks and then get it moved and unpack it … ack. Anyhow, yeah, I can see how sorry you feel for me.

Anyhow, that’s my update for now. I have to go watch the Oscars now..
