Is that an earthquake or just YOU sitting down?

For those of you living in an apartment complex, you’ll understand what I mean by the title of this section. I have upstairs neighbors. I’m on the second floor over the parking spaces, and then on the third floor are our neighbors. The apartment actually sits on the end of the building, so I guess I’m in a better place than the guy next to me who is totally surrounded by people.

I think I’m a good neighbor. I’m quiet, I’m friendly and I dont have a fucking piano sitting on top of MY neighbors house. I realize that people have to walk, of course, you’d think my neighbors were elephants the way they walk. I realize you’ll hear some noises, but these people are ridiculous. Perhaps I’m noticing it more since I’ve been home for three months, but the other day I spent half an hour trying to figure out why everything on my wall was bouncing off the wall. Finally figured out the kid next door was dribbling a basketball on the wall. The kid above my bedroom likes to wake up to a very loud, booming radio … I’ve learned to adapt to it. Worst of all though is sitting in the living room trying to watch a good DVD, turning on the surround sound and getting ready for the movie and then hearing the piano upstairs loudly playing. Its not even a song … its sort of a banging on the keyboard.

Now, I tend to try to keep calm and have notified the landlord of the noise … I figure that I can leave it up to him to deal with the problem. My roommate on the other hand prefers the broomstick on the ceiling method. I hate it. First of all, it damages the ceiling … so when we move out we’ll have to pay for the holes in the ceiling. Second, I dont need the crazy ass upstairs running down and beating the hell out of us. He’s already been arrested a couple of times for abuse to someone.

Anyhow, its a lesson in life and now I know to be on the uppermost floor of the next place I move to. Either that or to not live in an apartment building. Just a little tip for those of you looking to move out.
