Asian growth fueled by
Asian growth fueled by Indians
By Cecilia Kang, Mercury News
With the nation’s Indian and Vietnamese populations booming over the
past decade, the makeup of America’s fastest-growing ethnic group —
Asians — is rapidly changing, according to new census data released today.
For most of the past century, Asians in America fell neatly into one of
two categories: Chinese or Japanese. But over the past 10 years, as the
Indian population surged in the Bay Area, Indo-Americans became the
third-largest Asian group. Japanese-Americans fell to seventh place.
I actually never thought of indian people as asians. It just surprised me a little bit. I mean since they are from the Asian continent I suppose its true, but its going to take a bit for me to pound it into my head. Ugh.
