Plays Well With Others

I’m like a bird …

I’m like a bird …

When I first heard this song by Nelly Furtado, I thought it was really cool. It had a good beat, some good vibes and I could sing to it. What more could you ask for in a song? Hmm.

Well, it’s many months later, and I’m about to run my car over the bird. I’m convinced that the radio station I listen to at work only has an hours worth of music. I think I’ve heard that song seven times today. And predictably, I start humming along to it, and then find myself silently singing along, and before you know it … I want to kill myself. Just hurl myself off the side of the building and drown in the fountain.

To make matters worse, when the song first came out, a girl at work went around the office singing her own rendition of the song to everyone and anyone within earshot. “Marty’s like a bird, he only … ” “Tiffany’s like a bird, she only … ” Greg is like a bird, he only … “ I think you can see where I’m going with this. It’s cute and funny the first time, you still get a chuckle out of it the second and third times, and by the fourth time you are ready to stuff the CD down her throat. Alright already!

Now to give Nelly a little credit here, the song is nice. And I’m sure if I ever heard any of her other songs, they’d be nice too. Hint, hint. Of course that might be too much for my radio station, and I might add, the only one that actually comes through in this new building, can play. And so here I sit, at my desk, listening to Nelly sing her little heart away, “I’m like a bird … ” And dont even get me started on that Uncle Cracker character …
