Plays Well With Others

Up on a rooftop …

Up on a rooftop …

Well, I not only went to a family BBQ yesterday, but I actually got up the nerve to drive into the city to watch the fireworks. It was fun, in a new type of experience type of way. Not that I’ve never seen fireworks before, but that I’ve never seen them this way before. So, it was a new type of experience.

My day began by taking a drive to mom’s house to help try to finish up that bathroom project she’s been working on. I hate that project. I really do. It was supposed to a quick couple of weeks worth of work and it’s managed to drag on for a couple of months now. It’s all because of my mom’s need to do things the difficult way rather than the simple way. Instead of regular square tiles for the floor, she picks out these tiny octagon shaped ones; instead of painting the walls a solid cover, she wants to faux finish it. Ugh. Anyhow, yesterday I got the crown moulding up near the ceiling and then had some BBQ dinner.

After the BBQ feast, I headed down to The City to watch the fireworks from atop to roof of a multi-million dollar home. Booyah! Basically, I joined my friends who have a friend that owns a home on top of a hill in the rich part of town. The view from her window looks out on the Bay, where you can see the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. The view is awesome, on a clear day. Of course, being San Francisco, the fog started rolling in, like clockwork and obscured most of the upper portion of the view.

Around 9PM, we went up on the roof and were able to watch some of the fireworks show that Marin put on. For those unfamiliar, Marin is the county across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. After their show was over, we turned on the radio to the station that would be playing the music that the fireworks would correspond to and got ourselves ready for the show. Now, in San Francisco, the fireworks are shot off of barges placed in the middle of the Bay and their is an area set up around Aquatic Park, where people can sit and watch and listen. Of course, when you can enjoy the same thing from a rooftop, minus the crowds and traffic, it’s much more enjoyable. The only bad thing is that they aren’t shooting off over your head, but instead about half a mile away. Regardless, it was cool to watch and now I can say I watched them from a rooftop in San Francisco.
