Plays Well With Others

Carry my baby.. or not …

How do you like this …

This British woman enters into an agreement to be a surrogate mother to this San Francisco couple wanting a child. They go through with it, the British woman becomes pregnant and everythings all good, right?

Um, well not exactly. Seems that Miss Surrogate ended up pregnant with twins. Not too bad right? Well, the couple that hired her, doesnt want twins, they want ONE kid, so they asked the surrogate to abort one of the twins. The surrogate had no problem aborting one of the children and even signed an agreement beforehand, just for this type of case. However, the problem arises here. The surrogate notifed the couple, in the eighth week, that she was pregnant with twins and that the couple needed to make a decision on the matter, and as the thirteenth week rolled around they finally got back to her to let her know their decision. Of course, the thirteenth week is too late to have the abortion.

Now you might ask, ‘why doesnt she just have the kids and put one up for adoption and give one to the couple’. Well, and here’s something, the couple, as compassionate and caring as they are, dont want to split the twins up. Hmm, they are willing to kill one of them, but not split them up. Hmm, if you kill one, wouldnt you be splitting them up?

There are also some other legal issues involved because even though you use a surrogate, the child is legally yours, because it was created using your sperm or egg or both.

Now I dont want this to turn into an abortion topic, that can be discussed here, instead, should this couple be forced to take these children or pay to raise them. Whats the solution?
