Plays Well With Others

The beautiful day in our neighborhood …

Looks like Mister Rogers is leaving the neighborhood. After 34 years of singing his song, changing his shoes, and putting on those sweaters his mom knitted for him, he’s finally pulled the old U-Haul up to the house and is moving out.

The show is over.

It’s hard to believe that he’s leaving us. I mean, he’s been on TV just slightly longer than I’ve been alive. How can he leave us? Well, first of all, he’s getting old. It’s time for Mister Rogers to move onto other adventures. And although we’ll miss him dearly, we’ll just have to understand that our favorite neighbor has to leave.

Of course, there’s always those reruns. We can still watch the little train and see the puppets and enjoy the postman. It’ll all still be there for our kids and there kids after that, but only we can say we saw the originals. And we’ll miss having Mister Rogers as our neighbor. So for old times sake, lets sing along …

Won’t You Be My Neighbor

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,

A beautiful day for a neighbor.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine? …

It’s a neighborly day in this beauty wood,

A neighborly day for a beauty.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine? …

I’ve always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.

I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let’s make the most of this beautiful day.

Since we’re together we might as well say:

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

Won’t you be my neighbor?

Won’t you please,

Won’t you please?

Please won’t you be my neighbor?
