Plays Well With Others

Busy times in Gregville …

I think I’m still spinning from how busy this weekend was. See, this weekend was THE weekend. Well, not THE weekend, that’s this coming Saturday. This was THE OTHER weekend. The infamous bachelor/bachelorette party. So, here are all the juicy details …

I spent most of Saturday morning taking care of some freelance business, while Wifey™ went shopping with my mom for wedding stuff. That took until just about 3PM or so, and then we rejoined to head out to the party at 5PM.

Earlier in the week, we were given our party information in the form of a mission. There were a few things on the paper that we needed to do to get closer to finding out the location of our party. [1] Arrive at Yerba Beuna Gardens in San Francisco at 1700 hours; [2] Dress business casual and wear comfortable shoes; [3] Meet your contact at the waterfall; [4] Dont discuss it with anyone.

So, of course Wifey™ and I were late because of all the traffic and arrived at 5:30PM [1750 hours]. My friend Les was waiting for us with instructions and our next clue and we headed out. Our clues were basically to fill in the blanks based on signs around the park. After filling in the blanks, certain letters had numbers under them and those corresponded with a fill in the blank at the bottom of the page. Each time we completed a page, it would give us the clue to find the next sign and the answer to the page, and so on. We were also handed an envelope to open by 6:50PM, which would tell us the location of the restaurant if we didnt get through all of our clues. What made it unique is that none of the invited guests knew the location of the restaurant. They all had to follow the same types of clues, but none of us had the same clues, so we couldnt even cheat with other couples.

So, Wifey™ and I headed out and managed to get through the first one fine. Then we got to the second and hit a wall. We found the landmark but couldnt find the sign, and after walking around it a few times, we realized that a lady was sitting on our sign. We asked her to move and then got that clue out of the way. Of course, by this time it was close to 6:50PM and we couldnt figure out the answer, so we ripped open the envelope and headed to the restaurant.

We ate at a restaurant named Jillians, in the Metreon. During dinner we also played a game, similar to the newlywed game, where Wifey™ and I had to answer questions about each other. We sucked at it. Basically simple questions like favorite color we got wrong, while complicated questions we got right. Go figure. We did win some prized, including edible underwear, glow in the dark condoms, and a bunch of products you’d use for an overnight trip, which we couldnt figure out until we got our last prize … an overnight stay in one of the top floor rooms of the Marriott.

Dinner was great and afterwards we shot some pool and Wifey™ and I drank shots of some kind of apple flavored thing. And then we headed to our room, which was littered with new condoms, and had some champagne glasses and a bottle. Yummm..

I’ll leave the room activities to your imagination but we had to leave rather early and got up around 7AM. We headed to our apartment to get changed and freshened up and then around 9AM we headed to my grandmothers house to visit and pickup our wedding gifts. She’s bought us all of our silverware we’d ordered.

Around 11AM, we had an appointment with our reception music guy, so we headed back into the city around 10:30AM. He went through our playlist and had us listen to a stack of cd’s to get a feel for what we liked. Besides the all time cheesy wedding songs like, the Chicken Dance, the Macarena and YMCA, we also have a bunch of 80’s stuff that will be gnarly and rad. It’s going to be nice.

Of course, we had to leave around 12:30PM and rush on over to the rehearsal spot in the garden to be there at 1PM. Of course, like the rest of our schedule we were late by ten minutes and eveyone else was there waiting in the scorching sun. For the first time I met the minister and the photographer, which were cool people on their own. We ran through the pacing and the setup and then headed out.

At this point, I could use 48 hours of continuous sleep and some cold medicine, because both Wifey™ and I seem to have some kind of cold from all of this. But everything will be great by next weekend … I’ll keep you all in the loop.
