Plays Well With Others

The Big Day, Part II

Last I updated, I told you about the ceremony, so now it’s time for the reception. First off, I have to say that all the headaches and sleepless nights about how it would turn out and how we’d pay for it were all worth it. It was great.

The bill ended up right around what we’d budgeted for, even though the guy in charge told us a couple of days earlier that it was going to be $1000 over our budget. Whew, that made the night even more perfect knowing we wouldnt have to sell body parts to pay for it.

Wifey™ and I were actually some of the first to arrive at the reception, scheduled for 1PM. Upon arrival, we were immediately whisked away to one of the closed dining rooms so no one would see us. We were told we had to make a big entrance, so there we sat for about fifteen minutes waiting for everyone to arrive.

Then came the big moment. “I’d like to announce for the first time as a married couple – Greg and Wifey™!!”. And there we were, walking up the stairs and into a room full of familar faces – at least to me. We went straight to our table and there we sat trying to get used to the fact that we were at our own wedding. Pretty cool.

Eventually, we got up and walked around and greeted everyone and then dinner came around. Now during dinner, anyone that’s been to a wedding knows the tradition of banging their forks on the glasses to make the happy couple kiss. We’ll after the first few times, we decided to throw a little wrench in their game with a game of our own. We decided that everytime someone clinked their glass, we’d make a married couple – of our choice – show us how a really good kiss should be done and then we’d have to immitate it. So, the game began and sometimes just for fun, we’d clink the glasses just to be able to choose someone. The funny part was getting those old couples that never even touch each other to kiss. Great stuff.

The rest of the evening was filled with cake cutting, which we did the nice way. And the tossing of the bouquet, which was caught by our maid of honour, and the garter toss, which my sisters boyfriend caught. The surprising part was when I went deep under Wifey™’s dress to find the garter, which wasnt exactly near her knee where I expected it, but more in the region of the unmentionables. 😉

Dancing was fun and even Wifey™, who said she wouldnt step on the dance floor got involved. We did the Chicken Dance, the Macarena, the YMCA song.. all the old wedding favorites. I have to say one thing about those songs – as cheesy as they are, and as much as people fight to have them taken off the play list, people love them and it really makes the dance portion so much more fun, so I totally recommend you get them in.

All in all, the reception was a blast. I wish you had all been there. You will get to see some photos once we get them in a couple of weeks, but for now you’ll just have to be satisfied with these stories.

And I know everyone wants to hear about the gifts. Well, in cash and gift certificates we probably got about $500 or so, which would be on the low side, except that we got awesome gifts. We practically completed our china set (including the butter dish, a platter and the cream and sugar – just need two more sets of dishes) and got our entire set of formal flatware. We got a great grill, a mini food processor, two electric knives (one is going back), two slow cookers (one is going back), silver candlestick holders, a blanket for our bed, a great massager, all of our pots and pans we wanted, a beverage set, and plenty of other stuff I just can’t remember right now. We almost dont have room for everything anymore, it was amazing.

Anyhow, pictures are coming soon …

This is just a general comment to let everybody know that Greg is the most wonderful husband a girl could ask for. If anybody is interested to hear about my perspective of things drop a comment on here and if enough people are interested maybe Greg will let me do a guest entry who knows.

I already told her she could do a guest entry, all she has to do is write it up. No problemo here. She probably has better recollection of details anyhow, so I’m actually looking forward to it.
