Plays Well With Others

Down with the old …

About five years ago, my mom just had to have a deck built on the back of her house. Sort of a secluded patio area part of the backyard, before you hit the real backyard type of area. Thoroughly confused yet. Well, it doesnt really matter anyway, does it?

Anyhow, she agreed to buy all the lumber and thing-a-ma-bobs to put it all together, while I agreed to donate the labor. Would you trust someone to build your deck who says “thing-a-ma-bobs” when talking about nuts and bolts? Anyhow, believe it or not, I’m quite handy and believed that building a deck wouldn’t be that big an issue. A couple of weeks later, with the help of my sister’s then boyfriend, the deck was completed. Whew!

So, this weekend, we began the process of dismantling it to make room for my mom’s project of the month Ú a new sunroom. Sure glad I spent those weekend laboring away to make the deck of her dreams. Good thing she was so attached to the damn thing. Hmmph.

A bittersweet part of it is that the deck might not be gone for good. She’s planning on using the same wood to build a deck off her bedroom, so at least it wasn’t all a waste – moneywise. And guess who will probably be commissioned to build said new deck. Mmmmhmmm. Anyone looking for a permanent houseguest starting, say, September.
