Plays Well With Others

Rain, Rain Go Away …

Well, it doesn’t have to go away. It’s actually been a long time since we’ve seen any rain, as a matter of fact. However, last night, the Bay Area got it’s first rain of the season, with much more to come. With that, a San Francisco Autumn has finally arrived.

What I find funny is the reaction to rain on this coast. It’s not an anomaly. It’s rain for God’s sake. We have it every year. And every year, the newscasters rush out to the streets to get LIVE shots in front of puddles to let us know the rainy season has arrived. Last night, it was the top story. They spend about fifteen minutes preparing us for the fact that the rain is on it’s way. We’re aren’t talking torentual downpours or a hurricane, we’re talking about rain. Simple rain. And some wind.

Stranger is that, although we get it every year, it never seems like we are prepared. The typical scenario goes like this: The first rain falls and the next morning we are looking at downed trees and powerlines. Traffic is in chaos. The city has been turned upside down by some water falling from the sky. God forbid we have an actual storm, I think we’d be shut in for days.

Another fun thing about a San Francisco rain is that people on the road don’t seem to realize it’s there. The don’t slow down, they don’t try to drive more carefully. To them, it’s just another day with the exception that water is falling from the sky. As a result, nearly every highway is backed up due to an accident. It’s well known to locals, that people just don’t know how to drive in rain.

That’s a San Francisco Autumn for you. A bunch of retards out there on the roads in a big hurry to get to a place they probably hate being at anyway.
