Plays Well With Others

A Stroll in the Park …

Anyone else up for the four day workweek? Like half the people could have Mondays off and half of them could have Fridays off and we could all work ten hour days. All for the dreamy, standard three day weekend. Ah. Someday that dream could be a reality, but for now, as long as employers can legally make us work five day workweeks, eight hour workdays and forty hour work week … then they’ve got us.

Weekends go by so quickly.

Wifey™ and I spent the weekend relaxing for a change. We’ve moved the laundry ritual to Monday evenings at the apartment, rather than on the weekend at Mrs. Bubbles. I don’t know if it saves us money, but it definately opens up our weekend to do things that are more fun, so it’s worth it.

Saturday we spent the day at the shops. At the beginning of our day, it nearly turned sour when we went into Starbucks and found that they were out of the brownie chips required to make Wifey™’s “Mocha Brownie Frapuccino”. Luckily, we found another Starbucks that had all the right ingredients and were able to get on with our day. Nothing like a Starbucks scare to end a perfect day. With that out of the way, our first stop was at local shops and then at the big mall in San Francisco, Stonestown Galleria. We walked around at looked at all the stuff we can’t afford to buy and then headed out to look at more stuff we couldn’t afford. Nothing like a good ole confirmation that youre poor.

So since we couldn’t afford small stuff like clothes and shoes, we headed over to a furniture store to look at bedroom sets, since we are still making our homemade Trading Spaces style furniture. Again, we can’t afford $10k worth of furniture, but it’s always nice to walk in, get the sales people all juiced up over the possibility of a sale and then tell them that you have to think about it. Sounds better than telling them that you’re brokeass poor and they just wasted their time. I figure that it’s good practice for them anyhow, for when, people with money come in to buy furniture. Wifey™ and I found one set we like, so maybe in twenty years when our future kids are out of college, we’ll finally be able to get some replacement furniture.

Anyhow, by the end of the day we were pretty much starving and had no plans on actually firing up the stove to cook, so we settled on going to dinner. I’d been wanting some of that Friday’s Jack Daniels Steak sauce. Yummm. So that’s where we went. To Fridays, so I could have some of that yummy sauce. Later that night, we went to Top Secret Recipes and found out how it’s made, so now I can make it at home.

Sunday, was another relaxful day. We’d planned all week that we’d spend one of the weekend days at Golden Gate Park in The City to have lunch. Wifey™ hadn’t been their before and it’d been literally years since I’d spent much time there, other than a quick walk-through for AIDSwalk, the Breast Cancer walk or our own Bay to Breakers.

We had lunch in the courtyard area where on nice summer days orchestra’s and band’s play. There’s sort of a mini outdoor amphitheatre for free concerts, so that’s where we set up shop. This day, a crowd was swing dancing to the oldies. Around us, there were others picnicing, some doing Tai Chi and still others throwing the ball around. The weather was slightly cooler than the day before, but still nice enough for an outdoor picnic. Afterwards, we took a walk through the Japanese Tea Garden and then through the Botanical Gardens.

The day, and weekend, ended with “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, which was pretty funny. I recommend it. For about a week now, Wifey™ has been wanting to see this and “Sweet Home Alabama”. Neither has been at the video store the last five times we’ve gone in. Finally, last night, we managed to get one of the two. Ugh.
