Plays Well With Others

Nesting …

Wifey™ and I have a couple of little ones on the way. You heard it here first.

Before you get all congratulatory and start sending gifts, let me clarify that over the weekend we found some eggs in a nest on our porch. It all started about two or so weeks ago, when I bought some hanging fuschias to put on our porch. The purpose was the block our porch from our neighbors porch, so that when we were all out there, we wouldn’t be staring at each other. I like privacy.

Then last week, while I was watering, I noticed a nest in the hanging basket. I did a double take and then tried to think about if that nest had been there when I bought the thing. No clue.

So over the weekend, I was watering again, and decided to take a peek at the nest and to my surprise there were three little eggs inside the nest. Talk about a double take. I was actually pretty excited about the discovery, but then began to worry that the eggs had been in the nest last time and I didn’t notice them. Then I worried more that if the nest had been there when I bought it, that the eggs had lost their mother. Ugh.

So, this morning, I went over to the window to look at the hanging basket with the nest and when I opened the door that leads to the patio, a little brown bird flew out of inside the bush and waited patiently on a tree across the way. I took the opportunity to snap a picture and went back inside and watched quietly. Within moments, the little brown bird flew back to the hanging basket and back on top of it’s nest.

So, I’ll leave it alone and see what happens. I don’t want to get my head pecked off, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get another photo of the newborns, but we’ll see how it goes.
