Plays Well With Others

5-4-3-2-1 …

The countdown has begun. A week to go until Wifey™’s parents are here for their two-week visit … the same amount of time until I’m on a two-week vacation. Woohoo. She hasn’t seen them in two years, so she’s pretty excited about the whole thing.

Our weekends have been filled with last minute errands, cleaning and projects. You’d think Queen Elizabeth herself was coming down to crash at our pad. Next weekend we’ll spend doing all the final cleaning before they arrive. That means the deep cleaning instead of the usual superficial cleaning we normally do. It means moving stuff instead of dusting around it and it means actually scrubbing instead of just wiping. We mean business.

This past weekend we shampooed our carpets. Seems like it would be a pain in the ass, but in reality it took longer for us to go get the thing and set it up than it did to actually shampoo the carpets. We sort of had to move out what we could and then shampoo around what was left. It’s not like we could move all the furniture out of the apartment and, anyway, it’s probably still clean under most of the furniture since it hasn’t moved since we moved in. Anyhow, it took us about an hour or so to shampoo the carpets. Obviously we don’t live in a ten room mansion. We did the office, the hall, the dining room and living room. And it worked very well. The spots on the carpet are gone now and we have to try to keep it that way for about a week, until they arrive.

Next weekend, we’ve got to do some food shopping and then we’ll be set. Tonight a friend is dropping off an Aerobed for us to use, since we only have one guest room and her parent’s friends are going to need a place to sleep. Should be an interesting experience.

We did manage to fit in some fun this weekend, though. Actually, it was Friday, which to me is the weekend. Friday after work is considered the weekend, in my opinion.

Friday was my company picnic. Well, department picnic … not company picnic. It was pretty much the same as last year. Basically standing around waiting for the food so you can eat and then waiting for the events so you have something to watch. To break up the time. The problem is that we got their at 11AM and it took about an hour to get the food ready and then two more hours to get the events going. Ugh. So, to say the least, there was A LOT of standing around going on. I guess it’s better to be bored outside than inside. I brought my camera and took some photos, mainly to keep myself busy. I guess it worked for a little bit.

Anyhow, I managed to escape around 3PM. Usually the rule is that if you leave you have to head back to work, but I did a quick survey of people that were leaving and they indicated that they were going home, so I followed suit before anyone changed their mind. So, I got out of their at the first opportunity.

Friday night Wifey™ and I saw Beach Blanket Babylon — a San Francisco must-see. Great show even though we didn’t have great seats. A couple with HUGE heads managed to plop themselves down in front of me and I couldn’t see anything in the center of the stage. To make it worse, it wasn’t stadium seating but flat seating — meaning they were all level. Bobbing my head around all night, I could see the sides of the stage and got the gist of what was going on.

The show is always changing, so even if you see it once, you can go back and see it again and it will be different. I definately recommend seeing it if you take a trip to The City … but get seats near the front.
