A Full Weekend …

Thanksgiving was fairly typical. You sit, you eat, you make small talk, you’re bored, you wanna go home, you can’t because you’re trapped their until they serve dessert, you leave.

Anyhow, with a total of four days off, most of which Wifey™ was working, I had to find a project to keep me busy. So, I built this …

It’s a bunch of pine planks formed to create a bookcase. We really wanted a cabinet to put our china and good dishes in and everything out there is too expensive for us right now, so with about $100 worth of wood, I put this together. It does the job and can serve as a bookcase in the future, once we actually do get a dining room set.

Here’s a tip, though, when trying to build something like this while living in an apartment. Don’t. I cut most of the wood at my mom’s house and then brought them over to the apartment to do the assembly work. Apartment people don’t like the sound of an electric saw, so I couldn’t really do much of that here. Also, I threw a tarp down in the dining room and stained the thing in there, which was fine, except for the overpowering smell that sat in our house for three days. Ugh.

All in all, though, I think it turned out pretty well.
