Plays Well With Others

Shakey, shakey …

Nothing like a little 6.5 earthquake to get your blood pumping, early on a Monday morning. Here at Big Financial Corp(TM), we were all pretty much sitting here performing the grind when someone yelled out, “is that an earthquake?”. For those not familar, it sort of feels like youre having a dizzy spell.

I was sitting at my desk, working on a project and suddenly felt like I was getting dizzy and about to pass out. I knew the monitor was shaking, but I guess it doesn’t immediately dawn on you that it’s an earthquake. I figured that maybe someone had bumped the desk.

Regardless, it was over after about 5-10 seconds.

The quake was centered along the Monterey coast, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. So, those in Monterey felt it’s full 6.5 magnitude, while those of us farther away felt a very light shaking.

Fun, fun, fun … here in earthquake country. The funniest part is the reactions. You can definately tell the first timers from the experienced earthquake people. Most of us felt it, dealt with it and went back to work. There were a few people that immediately ran for the televisions and got online to notify their loved ones that they “survived”. Ugh. People crack me up. Unless the ceiling is falling down on me, they really aren’t that big a deal.

It makes you feel dizzy? That’s odd. I’ve never experienced an earthquake. I’d probably crap my pants!

I should reword that. I didn’t feel dizzy and I didn’t feel like I was going to pass out, but as I was working and watching the screen shake, it sort of gave me the same feeling you get when you get dizzy and are about to pass out. Only after someone said something, did I realize that it wasn’t me getting dizzy, but was an earthquake. Ugh. They always tell us to get under a desk or in a doorway, but when it actually happens you just sort of sit there trying to figure out what’s going on. Strange.
