Plays Well With Others

We’re Homeowners …

I guess we were expecting balloons falling from the sky and a band marching up the street congratulating us on our new purchase. Instead we got dead silence. Wifey™ and I have been pretty quiet about the whole thing because we wanted to make sure we’d actually gotten the place. And no one was really telling us anything, so we figured there was still a chance we’d lose it. But I got a call from my realtor cousin and our mortgage broker basically telling me that the place was ours and that we were just wrapping up the final paperwork. Ugh.

I’m old school. I need people to come out and just tell me things outright. Ugh. So we get the keys on March 19th and will probably actually move in by the end of March.

Our first act as homeowners was to kick out the current homeowners. Haha. Not really. They wanted extra time to find a place and we basically made the decision that it wouldn’t really work for us. Sounds mean, but if you need extra time then you should state it in your contract and not wait until the last minute. I don’t know where they’re going to live until they find something. Not in MY house. I’m really counting on that extra week and a half to do some fixing up to the place prior to us actually moving in. We really enjoyed the extra time during the last move and I’d like to have it this time too. It’s much needed and really helps make the smoother transition. So, although I’d have loved to give the current people more time, sometimes you have to think of yourself.

Now the fun part begins … or the hard part depending on your perspective. We’ve already started the task of packing up our apartment. There’s a lot of stuff you can pack away that’s more decorative than useful. We’ve got collectibles and dishes that are just for display that we’ve packed away, and I’m slowly working on getting the office into shape. Ugh.

Feel like we just moved … oh yeah, one year ago … we did.
