Plays Well With Others

Rude Awakening…

Have you ever been sound asleep and suddenly you hear something that you think is a dream at first and then you wake up and it’s real? Well, that happened this morning.

About 6:30AM, both Wifey™ and I were sound asleep when we heard someone yelling. I think we both thought it might be the guy downstairs yelling at his dog and didn’t pay much attention to it. Seconds later we heard it again, “someone please help me” and we both jolted up out of bed. Wifey™ ran downstairs to the balcony, while I immediately got dressed and ran downstairs to check with her. A group of neighbors were out there and they also had heard the screams and had even narrowed down which unit it was coming from. They couldn’t enter because his outdoor gate was locked and the fence was about 6 feet tall.

Meanwhile I’d already started heading over to where the group had gathered. They all were certain the screams had come from this unit… although the guy hadn’t screamed since we’d all gathered down there. No one had called 911 and no one had done much of anything at this point other than figure out where he lived. I tried to open the gate, but feared that I’d knock the whole fence down pushing it too hard, so instead I jumped over the 6 foot gate… in the process somehow breaking the lock free. Once inside of his courtyard, I started peeking through windows but didn’t see much. The first window showed an empty room and I was starting to think that maybe no one lived there. Another window on the other side was wide open, but had blinds closed on it. So I peeked through the blinds and there was this guy laying there on the ground not moving at all.

Ugh.

I opened his blinds up, and at first glance I kind of thought he was dead. Ugh. I started talking to him, asking if he was okay and his eyes opened and he started babbling incoherently, talking about how he’d hurt his wrist and fell a few times and knocked some stuff over. He said that we should straighten the house out… erm, yeah. Priority number one, pal. By this point, someone outside had called 911, and the police were on their way. I was still with him trying to keep him from moving.

What I found funny is that when the police did arrive, they immediately started talking to him and finding out how he was… yet I was inside his house wandering around trying to see if there was anything to help him and they didn’t even talk to me at all. I just stepped over him and left through the window and they totally didn’t interview me or anything. I just find that strange. Like this guy is laying on the ground, there’s a random guy wandering around his house and you don’t ask ANY questions.

Anyhow, one police, fire and ambulance was there we pretty much all went back to our homes and that’s about it. The guy refused to be brought to the hospital and when they all left, he was still in his house. So we have no clue what was wrong with him. Perhaps he was diabetic and his blood sugar was low. I don’t know.

At least we did something to help him instead of not getting involved like most of the other people in our complex. I figured, if he was having a heart attack, at least he’d know someone was there and maybe hold on a little bit longer than to just give up because no one was around.

Anyhow that was our exciting morning wake up call. Ugh.

Crazy you bring that up, happened to me this morning. Sound asleep, phone rings, it’s the ex. Had a dream where she was in it. Cell phone rings in the middle of it, guess who.

    Ack.
