Plays Well With Others

Maybe The Cat DOESN’T Hate Us…

We got Lily two weeks ago and she’s pretty much been under the armoire, under the sofa and in the closet since we got her. That photo I took of her was pretty much the only time we really saw her up close in those two weeks.

So after two weeks, Wifey™ and I were pretty much thinking that it’s useless to have a cat that you have to feed and clean up after, but never get to see. What’s the point, really. I mean, there’s no pay off. You feed the little shit, you clean up it’s turds and then it hides until you’re gone. At that point, we were thinking that we might have to give her back.

So, I figured we’d give her one month to prove herself. At the same time, we decided that we were going to spend an hour each day having her sit with us. This meant crawling around the floor, moving furniture and yanking her out from under things. The interesting thing is that once we put her on our laps, she LOVED it. She’d purr, she’d lay there, she was happy as a clam. She even nudges her head on our hand to let us know she wants more petting. Okay, so maybe she didn’t really hate us.

Well, our payoff came Saturday night when we were sitting in the living room watching TV and the cat came out from under the sofa, looked up at the sofa where Wifey™ was sitting and jumped up and curled up next to Wifey™. All by herself. Of course, neither of us moved a muscle for fear of scaring her, but eventually she let Wifey™ start petting her and then she even climbed over to the arm chair I was sitting in and sat on my lap. At first we thought that maybe it was a one time deal, but come Sunday night she did it again. She sat with us.

She still spends most of her time under the furniture than ON it, but that’s not so bad. At least she’s starting to spend time with us, which is all we really wanted anyhow.

Personally, I think she heard us talking about returning her and she was like, helllllllllll no, I ain’t going back there.
