Plays Well With Others

iBook Mania…

A rush to purchase $50 used laptops—4-year old, Apple iBooks, usually sold for $999-$1299—turned into a violent stampede Tuesday at the Richmond International Raceway in Virginia, with people getting thrown to the pavement, beaten with a folding chair and nearly driven over. One woman went so far as to wet herself rather than surrender her place in line.

This is just one more reason why grown-up people shouldn’t be allowed to have free, or nearly free, stuff. These iBooks could have been sold to another school where they would have been appreciated, but instead you get a bunch of idiots out for a nearly free laptop… and they nearly kill each other.

What’s funny is that you could replace the laptop with just about anything and you’d have the same result. We had mini loaves of Wonder bread in the store I worked at years ago and they were on display in the center of the aisle. Seconds after the display was put out, a hoard of people rushed over and literally knocked the display over, spilling the loaves all over the floor… and even then they didn’t stop trying to grab as many as possible.

Finally, I went over and yelled at everyone to get away. Collected all of the mini loaves and put a bagful on each register where customers would be handed ONE loaf as they were leaving. Ugh. People just don’t know how to act like human beings.

Regarding the laptops—when you notice that there are 5,500 people waiting in line and only 1,000 laptops, maybe it would have been a good idea to have some sort of lottery. Hand people tickets and then pick 1,000 tickets from a box to find out who gets one. Ugh.

THIS is exactly why I hate people. It’s all ME ME ME… even if it means literally running OVER a person.
