Winding Down From Christmas…
Whew. It’s over. It’s been a whirlwind few days and the last thing I wanted to do was pull out the laptop and type up an entry. So, here’s the lowdown.
Friday, I was off. I think I spent nearly all day cooking—mostly preparing for our big party on Saturday. We bought two 8lb. pork roasts, which I stuffed with dried cranberries, dried apricots, garlic and rosemary. I also prepared some stuffing with chicken apple sausage, a really good meatball sauce for appetizers and some stuffed mushrooms. Let me tell you, food preparation is tiring as hell. And not only that, but Wifey™ got home around 5PM and we had to start straightening up the house and moving all the furniture around. By the end of the night we were in great shape and had turned our place into a party house.
Saturday was busy, but a good time. Cooked a lot of food. A LOT. Our pork roast recipe recommended one 8lb roast for 16 people. We were going to be hosting 18 people, so we bought TWO 8lb roasts. Well, 18 people ate half of one 8lb roast. Ugh. They loved it, don’t get me wrong, but just didn’t eat much. Probably because of all of our delicious appetizers, like the meatballs which were REALLY good.
Anyhow, everything went well, the food was great and everyone had a great time. But let’s get on to the gifts.
For me, I got a few iPod accessories, which will be really useful, and replacement headphones for my work computer, since my other ones broke. I also got a really nice electric razor from Wifey™ because I’d spent the last month complaining how mine wasn’t working anymore. Along with that, I got a bunch of cash and gift cards, so Christmas will continue for a few days.
Wifey™ also made out well. She got loads of smelly stuff—bath gel, bubble baths, perfumes, shower gel, etc. My sister got her a Coach purse, my mom got her some sleepwear and I got her some speakers for her iPod and a black Razr cell phone.
We opened our gifts Saturday night—Christmas Eve, after everyone went home, which is our tradition. Sunday was just a laid back day where we didn’t even leave the house. Wifey™ stayed in her PJs, I changed into some jeans. My mom and sister came over to exchange their gifts and watch Polar Express. We also had some leftovers. Ugh.
Anyhow, it’s been a relaxing few days and Wifey™ and I are going to head out and maybe do a little shopping. I’m off for another week, so I’ll probably just hang out and maybe find a little project to take care of around the house. Who knows. Time off rocks.
