Plays Well With Others

2006: The Beginning…

At the stroke of midnight, 2006 began. Wifey™ and I clinked glasses (full of grape-apple cider) and gave each other the obligatory first kiss of the new year. We think next year we’ll have a party just to make it more exciting.

First off, it was a little depressing watching Dick Clark try to do his New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show. It’s great that a year after a stroke he’s able to get up there and try, but his speech was so slurred that it was pretty tough to understand most of what he was saying. That said, I enjoyed the show. Ryan Seacrest did a fairly good job and I enjoyed the video performances.

At midnight, we weren’t the only ones celebrating. So were the neighbors out in the courtyard. Now most people blow party horns, instead these people were squeezing animal toys. It was the sound a toy dog bone makes. Lots of them. No big deal because it’s the New Year and they’re having some fun. That is, until they started popping off firecrackers.

The amusing part was that this was a lower level unit. With someone else’s balcony over them. So they’re firing off firecrackers and we’re waiting for them to set the the building on fire, as most drunks with firecrackers would end up doing. They finally stopped when they lost control of one of the firecrackers and it flew into someone else’s courtyard. They didn’t set anything on fire luckily.

Since Wifey™ had to work today, we went to bed about a half an hour into the new year. And then it rained most of today, so I did some projects around the house—namely installing our under-cabinet kitchen lighting. It went fine until the power went out midway. Ugh.

Tomorrow is my final day off and then it’s back to work. I’m actually looking forward to it and a short week at that.
