Recommendation: Crash…
Typically I avoid recommending music, movies or books to people. We all have different tastes and what I like, someone else might not. That said, tonight we watched a movie we’d Tivo’d a few days ago called Crash. The short explanation is that the movie is about people and race. It’s about how strangers lives collide in various ways, changing who they are in small ways. As one reviewer stated, “Through daily interaction people accidentally connect with each other where stereotypes and generalizations are made based on assumptions from the brief incidents, previous events, and hearsay. This is often the result of simplified deduction, which could be colored by emotion and bias. The skewed perception of people with different ethnicity could also stem from appearance, gender, and the socioeconomic status of the observer and the observed. Paul Haggis directs several interesting characters from all walks of life such as police officers, criminals, locksmiths, storeowners, and TV directors. Some are caring while others neglect those around them. They have one thing in common with each other – no one is alike. ”
Like I said, typically I don’t recommend movies, but this one is worth seeing. It gives you pause to think and opens your eyes to what we all already know but pretend we don’t. It’s a movie that demands and captures your attention and as you watch, you think.
