Plays Well With Others

Terms of Endearment…

The other day I was watching a program on TV and the couple would call each other “Baby” everytime they needed to talk to each other. From the other room, you’d hear “Baby, can you come here”, “Yeah, Baby, I’ll be right there”. Ugh. Annoying as hell. Of course they weren’t married. That’s dating talk right there—sweet and syrupy.

Once you get married, it get’s turned into the more likeable “Babe”. In fact, most other terms are better, like any derivative of “Honey” or “Sweetheart” are fine. But “Baby” hits my trigger. That and baby talk.

I’ve never been one to use pet names. The closest I get is turning people’s names into a one syllable word and calling them that.

I know of one couple that uses “Pooh Bear”, which is equally annoying. I guess what makes it annoying is that it’s just WAY too syrupy. You know. Say what you want in the privacy of your own home, but keep it away from my ears.

Of course the alternative is to yell out, “Hey asshole, I need to see you in the living room”. But for some people, that IS a term of endearment.

So what do you and your significant other call each other?

We’ve been dating for over 4 years now, but still call each other Boo. We almost never uses our real names. When I’m trying to tell him something and we doesn’t hear me, then I’ll use his real name to see if I have any more luck.

Yeah, when the real names get used it’s time for some BUSINESS to be had. Boo isn’t bad. At least it doesn’t give off the baby talk vibe.
