Funeral Protesters…
Rev. Fred Phelps likes to go military funerals and heckle grieving families, saying that the deaths result from our tolerance of gays and are a punishment from God. A group of bikers has decided to join them at these funerals—singing loud patriotic songs and blocking the protesters with large American flags, essentially blocking them vocally and visually, so these families can grieve in peace.
The church, Westboro Baptist Church, is not affiliated with a larger denomination and is made up mostly of Fred Phelps’ extended family members.
I keep hoping “real” Baptist churches will sue the family for misusing the term “Baptist Church.” As long as they keep wrapping themselves up inside a mainstream Christian label, nobody will have the stones to call them out, but if that ever happened they might finally start getting recognized as the fringe cult they really are.
Yeah I have to agree with you on this one. They sound like a cult to me from what I’ve read. Just another group calling themselves Christians, giving a bad name to people that DON’T take it over the top. Ugh.
Going to funerals though, ugh, that’s just lame.
