Plays Well With Others

Democrats Just Suck…

Does anyone else feel like the Democratic party is just sucking right now? Or is it just me. Where are the balls from these people? They’ve totally dropped the ball as far as taking advantage of the current administrations continuous mistakes and misteps, and proving themselves as true leaders, willing to take a stand for the American people. Instead they sit in the corner wimpering. So far the only person who’s been willing to stand up and try something seems to be Senator Russel Feingold, which his censure request on the President for ordering illegal wiretaps on American citizens. The Republicans, on the other hand, took full advantage of trying to impeach Clinton for getting a blow-job in the Oval office. Okay, so there was more than just that, but you get the point.

Yeah, not like they couldn’t have censured Bush for using false intelligence about weapons of mass destruction in justifying the 2003 invasion of Iraq. According to the article, “Last December, Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) called for an investigation of the administration’s prewar use of intelligence and offered motions to censure Bush and Vice President Cheney for failing to respond to Democratic inquiries about the planning and execution of the war.”

Even more frustrating is that most Democrats seem to be going with the flow in terms of riding the Republicans coattails. For example, the issue of raising the debt ceiling is back on the table and it appears that most Democrats are voting right along with the Republicans in favor of raising it to $9 trillion dollars. Essentially they are funding Bush’s reckless spending, pushing us farther and farther into a debt situation we won’t be able to get out of.

But beyond all of this, you’d think this would be the perfect time to strike. The President’s support is at record lows, even among his own party members; we’re involved in an unfavorable war; all of the other countries basically hate us; he mishandled the port deal and his administration is plagued with scandals. Cheney even shot someone in the face and it’s been brushed under the carpet. Ugh.

What have Democrats done as a counter-strike to show some leadership? Nothing. When Feingold called for a censure resolution, most Democrats were sympathetic to his plight, and then distanced themselves.

“We have a great case that they have done a poor job of fighting the war against terrorism,” Feingold said of the Republicans in an interview yesterday. “We need a different strategy, one that shows we stand for something.”

As for what the people want, 46% of all Americans favor censuring the President. And just for fun, 43% favor impeaching him.

So where do we go from here? Who knows. It seems that they’ve all just gone crazy and I’ll tell you right now, that the only votes I’ll be casting during election time are for people willing to challenge the system rather than ride along with it. I suggest you do the same—anyone currently holding office should be sent a clear warning.

I agree, about the election. Vote only for candidates who challenge Bush and Co. The problem is, where are they. Besides Feingold, Barbara Lee, Nancy Pelosi, Robert Byrd, where oh where. Also we need to do more than vote. Work on campaigns or run yourself. And then there is the question of whether any meaningful opposition can get elected when the elections are rigged, by Republican-controlled electronic voting machines. Don’t give up though. The system of denial and lies is cracking. Keep pouring energy, time, money, whatever resistance you can, into the cracks, until it breaks apart. The “war on terror” is mostly bogus anyway. Of all the thousands of people Bush and Co. have spied on, detained, harassed, tortured, held indefinitely, how many do they actually have any evidence against, that could hold up in a court of law? So far, one. Moussai (sp?) And even that case seems overblown. He says he’s a member of Al-Qaeda, but what connection did he actually have to 9/11? He’s hardly the mastermind, yet the government wants the death penalty. What for? To exact some kind of symbolic revenge, and distract from the fact that they haven’t caught Osama bin Laden–and the official investigation of 9/11 produced a heap of warm horse manure.

If the “war on terror” is real–and not just an updated McCarthyism, baseless accusations of “terrorist” or “terrorist sympathizer” substituting for baseless accusations of “communist” or “communist sympathizer”–if the government has a legitimate case against anyone, of the thousands of people they have persecuted, let them prove it in a court of law. If not, let the people go.
