Plays Well With Others

Clear As Glass…

What a gorgeous weekend. Finally. It’s been such a rainy beginning of the year, that it was nice to finally have a warm weekend where we could enjoy our patio and the outdoors. We even pulled the cover off the barbeque and flipped some burgers for the occassion. You never know, it could be raining by next weekend.

Such weekend usually leave me wanting to get outside and wanting to get away from the TV and the computer. So I end up a little out of the loop as far as news and world events go. I admit, I brought the laptop out on the patio a few times to check email, but that was the extent of it. Mostly, I just wanted some music out there.

Our big thing this weekend was installing a storm door for the front of our place and a meeting with a window guy. We decided to buy the storm door mainly to get some extra light in our entry hall. With the door closed, it’s super dark in the hall area. Now we can leave the front door open all day, bolt the storm door and have light while feeling fairly safe from anyone walking right into our house. We definitely didn’t want a screen door, because they seem to block a lot of the light and also don’t have windows to block the wind. This way, even on a rainy day, we could leave the door open and let the light in. It’s a great storm door, all windows with a retractable screen that hides when not in use.

Finally, we had a window guy come out. Living in a 40 year old building means that most of the windows are old and ready for replacement. Getting over 200 residents to approve a new window style and manufacturer is like getting football fans to stay quiet after a touchdown. As chairman of the building committee, I’m trying to get the ball rolling by bringing in a few manufacturers to discuss their windows with the homeowners and then get at least 51% of them to agree on a manufacturer, so we can move forward with getting the windows replaced. We’ll see how this goes. This particular guy was from Andersen windows and, in my opinion, they offer the most options and features for your buck. The problem is that that buck is sizable. Probably more sizeable than the homeowners are willing to spend for a townhouse. But we’ll give him a chance to hang himself in front of a room full of angry homeowners. It should be fun.

And that’s about it. Wifey™ and I took a walk around the neighborhood yesterday. Most of the homes are built on man-made waterways, which just make them that much more attractive to potential buyers. We also walked to the grocery store for some hamburger fixin’s.

Days like those just make you want to be outside and enjoy the fresh air. Hopefully everyone did.
