Plays Well With Others

Another Busy Weekend…

How come the week drags on so slowly and the weekends just whiz by? I’m sure it has something to do with how busy I am on the weekends and how un-busy I am during the week. Funny how that works.

Anyhow, Friday evening my mom and I went to pick up a large moving truck. The truck is about the size of a UPS truck and is owned by some family friends who have the truck as a part of their business. I think I may have driven something this size before, once.

Driving this truck is unlike driving a regular car in a few ways. First, there’s no rear view mirror, so you’re relying on your side mirrors the whole time. Also, every bump in the road pretty much felt like a canyon in this particular truck. I’d hit a pothole and my entire body would be thrust upwards off the seat. I was pretty sure I’d be knocked unconscious from hitting my head on the ceiling. And other drivers, well, they just want to be in front of you, so they’re willing to risk their lives to cut me off. I say risk their lives, because stopping this thing didn’t happen as quickly as it would in a smaller car.

Saturday, my sister’s boyfriend and I loaded up the truck with a few pieces of furniture meant for a storage unit. A couple were heavy and a some were light, but we managed to get it loaded fairly quickly. At the storage unit place, I even managed to back the behemoth up and was surprised that I got it between the parking lines on the ground. Not too bad for my first time, and not being able to see anything. The moving went quickly and by mid-morning it was done.

The rest of the day was spent with a power-washer in hand, cleaning the cement walkways and flagstone around my mom’s house. If you haven’t had a chance to use a power-washer, well, go rent one and have some fun. That thing is crazy. It’s basically blasts away and dirt and discolorations in the cement or flagstone, leaving a clean, fresh surface all with ordinary hose water. I want one. I think I spent four hours power-washing everything in sight, from lawn furniture to flagstone to cement to the fence. I imagine it’d also work well on the rims of my car to get the black gunk off.

Sunday was mostly spent around the house. I got a haircut and then headed over to the car wash, since it’s literally been over six months since the last one. For about $13, they brought the shine back and did a great job vacuuming and washing the interior. Well worth it. I’ll definitely be heading back.
