Superheroes…

Remington Steele: Season 4 and 5

When you’re young, the world is your oyster. Your mind is open enough to believe that you can be whatever you want from a superhero to President of the United States. And then, somewhere along the line some adult comes along and squashes your dreams and leads you to believe that you have to settle for the unfullfilling life that they accepted.

Yeah.

Kids who dream today, turn into inventors of tomorrow. Just remember that. If no one had dreamt of walking on the moon, we’d still be down here looking up at it wondering what the hell it’s made of. But I digress.

As a kid, I had a lot of dreams. But the one I’m recalling right now is in line with kids who want to be superheros. While my friends wanted to be Superman or Wonder Woman, I had dreams of being Remington Steele. Yeah, I didn’t dream THAT big. The show was on from 1982 to 1987, when most of the blogging world was still having their asses wiped down by their manny.

Maybe it was my practical side that told me that floating above the earth, spinning webs and flying around in an invisible plane were out of reach. So, I opted for a guy who solved mysteries and had a British accent. I’m sure I could pull off a fake British accent, as good as Madonna can pull off hers. And at that point in my life, I was in love with the thought of wearing suits and being driven around in limousines. Ah, the glitz and the glamour.

Of course the show ended after five years and Remington went on to become James Bond. And well, at 15, I wasn’t really living in make believe world anymore, so that ended and I was thrust into the real world. But, ah… what fun it was. Young, naive and full of dreams.
