Plays Well With Others

The World Today…

It’s probably been pretty apparent that I’ve been avoiding blogging about what’s going on in the world. What a mess, and where does one start.

I guess I could start with the bang up job we’re doing to get Iraq functioning again. I think everyone is aware that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, but that’s where we’re focusing all of our money and efforts. The Bush administration had continuously lied to us about their reasons for going to war, yet thousands of our soldiers have given their lives for a war that has no purpose. Bush finished what his Daddy didn’t. Plain and simple. Bin Laden? He’s out roaming the mountainside, trying to stay out of harms way. We could get him if we wanted to, but I have a feeling we don’t really want to.

At this point, the progress in Iraq is non-existent and a civil war is errupting. Even the head of U.S. Central Command has acknowledged that it’s getting out of control.

“I believe that the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I’ve seen it, in Baghdad in particular, and that if not stopped it is possible that Iraq could move toward civil war,” Gen. John Abizaid testified at a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee. “Failure to apply coordinated regional and international pressure … will further extremism” and could lead to a widening and more perilous conflict, he said.

Some of the criticisms include initially not sending in enough troops to Iraq, disbanding the Iraqi military and not putting in enough planning to maintain stability. Frankly, I’m shocked that the entire Bush administration isn’t on trial right now for this mess.

And speaking of instability, there’s Fidel Castro who turned over power for the first time to his brother. Neither have been seen and Cubans living in the U.S. are praying that he drops dead. I always find is strange that one person could have such power over a country full of people that could easily overthrow him. I don’t know much about Cuba, but I guess it’s easier to flee the country than it is to live there and try to start something up. Regardless, since Condoleeza Rice wasn’t able to do much good in Beirut, she’s now telling the Cubans not to flee their island for the Florida shores. Stay put.

And finally, there’s a war going on between Israel and Hezbollah. I won’t begin to try and explain this one, because you can read about virtually everywhere. There were some disturbing images that I recently saw, though that I’ll share. There are reports that some of these have been staged—along with many others, so I can confirm or deny their authenticity.

The images below show a little girl writing on a missle, “Nazrala with love—From Israel and Daniele”

This is the world we live in. What a frightening place. Sometimes we’re so removed from the actual happenings, and get desensitized to the numerous images that are floating around on the web and television that it becomes hard to get attached to it all. Sometimes it’s just easier to detach, than to try and believe that human beings can do this to other human beings. What a scary world.
