Passports…Check…

United States Passport

Next month, Wifey™ and I will be spending two weeks visiting her parents in Montreal, Canada. Although, the new requirements don’t go into effect until January, we’ve taken the precaution of getting passports—mine a U.S. passport, hers a Canadian passport. Typically, you can travel from the United States to Canada, Mexico and the Carribean sans passport by just showing your birth certificate. Next year, passports will become a requirement. Most passport offices are already feeling the crunch, especially since most Mexican immigrants regularly travel in and out of the country on a steady basis.

We’re still reading up on exactly what we can and can’t travel with these days. I know that bottled water is out. Whodathunkit. I’m going to keep my carry-on minimal, mostly camera equipment that would get destroyed if placed in the care of the airlines. Another option is to just ship a bunch of stuff over there for the trip and then ship it back at the end of the trip.

Anyhow, it should be fun. If anyone wants to hook up with us, stake out the airport on October 2nd. We’ll be the really tired ones. I’m not big on planes, just because you’re basically enclosed in a big steel sardine can and confined to the plane for six to eight hours. Ugh. Also, just knowing the most of those 9/11 flights were doing the New York to San Francisco route doesn’t make it any easier. But what can you do, if it’s your time to go there’s not much that we can do to stop it from happening.

Once in Montreal, we’ve got trips planned to Quebec City, downtown Montreal and a few other spots. I know Wifey™ is eager to see some old friends, coworkers and especially her parents and brother. It’s been a few years since she saw her parents and five since seeing her brother.

Should be a good time.
