Plays Well With Others

Meet Your Meat…

To me, these PETA ads showing animals being tortured to provide meat to American’s dinner tables is on equal footing to Christians standing outside of abortion clinics showing fetus pieces sucked out using a vacuum. It’s gross, disgusting and something we shouldn’t be subjected to. It’s all about OUR choices.

I am a vegetarian, and I have my reasons, but I also do not believe in forcing my lifestyle choices on anyone (at least, not any further than saying, “can you make sure there’s a vegetarian option at this meal?”). If you want to eat meat, so be it.

And I don’t necessarily like these ads, either.

But, I’m a little unsure on the “equal footing part” of your statement. I mean, is PETA standing outside grocery stores and butcher shops? To be honest, I’ve never really seen a PETA ad outside the website and magazines that meat eaters probably aren’t reading either.

I totally respect people for their lifestyle choices, whether it’s being gay or being a vegetarian or being handcuffed to a bed during sex. Everyone’s got choices. And I agree, every restaurant should have vegetarian options and even healthy alternatives. I know you can ask to substitute the mashed potatoes with steamed veggies, but wouldn’t it be nice to just be able to order something off the menu without substituting stuff.

I think I’m talking more about the ads themselves, regardless of where they’re being shown outside clinics, grocery stores or in magazines. The fact that someone made the video to try and influence someone else’s choice is just wrong. Just because they don’t agree with eating meat, doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for everyone.
