Plays Well With Others

MacWorld…

With MacWorld in full swing, some of the announcements so far have started to make the geeks drool… myself included.

First up is their Apple TV box. This basically allows you to take the multimedia content that’s on your computer and view it on your widescreen television wirelessly throughout your house. That music, those photos and the downloaded movies that are currently stores in iTunes, which you typically have to view on your computer monitor, can now be streamed through the Apple TV box and onto your living room television—without having to go over to your computer to do anything.

The second announcement was of the much anticipated Apple iPhone. This thing takes phones to the next level, with touch screen controls and the ability to view most of the multimedia content from your computer. Like their iPods, you can hook the phone up to your computer, download your favorite songs, movies, and photos into the phone and view them on the go. The screen can be viewed horizontally or vertically—and the phone just knows when it’s in either of those modes.

As for the phone itself, it quick touch of the screen and you’re in phone mode, able to make calls, set up an address list and do conference calls and go into speakerphone mode. Along with the phone features, you can check your email, browse the web, IM your friends, check Google maps for directions, and a bunch of other stuff.

Apple will be partnering with Cingular to be their carrier, and since Cingular is a part of AT&T, most people can just combine their mobile phone with their landline phone and television Dish Network accounts to pay one bill.

Overall, good news from Apple, which will hopefully translate to good news for my stock.

No shit, Joe. I’ll have to switch to Cingular to get the phone, but it might be worth it. Just the fact that it has Google maps on it, would be a life saver for me when I need directions, and then having a web browser and email. And that doesn’t even include all the iPod features, like viewing photos, movies, and listening to music. Ugh.

And the iTV, well, that’s certainly look very nice next to my HD set in the living room. We had friends over and tried to show them some vacation pictures on our laptop and it took forever… imagine just clicking on the TV and bam bam, their watching your slideshow or whatever.

    Niiiiiiice.
