Vacation in a nutshell …

I arrived in Montreal on December 26th at around 4:30PM. After going through the regular customs deal and collecting my luggage I was greeted by Wifey™ and her family. The weather hovered around minus 10 to 14 degrees with snow all around. It was cold as hell or whatever would be cold and we were off to her town an hour away. Nice to be together again.

Wifey™ had to work most of the week, but we did get about three days all to ourselves to be together. Her boss even gave her one day off so we could spend it together. I spent most of the days with her parents or playing PlayStation with her brother. That racing game rocks.

I asked Wifey™ to make a reservation at a nice restaurant so we could have at least one night all to ourselves, so we made it for New Years Eve. She’d bought a new skirt for the evening and I had a dressy outfit of my own. It was a very nice evening.

We had a really good dinner that cost me hardly anything. I had a veal dish and she had salmon. Everything was really good and it was just nice to have a night out on our own. During the cheesecake dessert I asked her about her New Years resolution and what she was thankful for, and she said she was thankful for me being in her life. I was also thankful for her and produced a ring which I place on the table in front of her. I asked her to marry me and after she got over the initial shock of staring at the ring and being speechless she said yes. We’ve known each other about a year now and life is good for both of us. We want to be together and enjoy each others company much more than we do now. We both know its going to work out and our families are very supportive of it all.

I was given her fathers permission and my mom was so happy she dropped her cup on the floor. My mom has already spread the word to everyone within earshot and I’m sure she’s working on the news bulletin to go later this evening. Just kidding, but she is excited.

I’m sure alot of people are wondering about how people take the fact that we met online. Our families and close friends are supportive about it. Of course its weird at first, but after explaining that its much like writing letters to each other, as many people did before computers, they begin to realize that we are jsut using the technology to our advantage. We werent limited to the people that lived in our town and could open our hearts to anyone in the world with the technology available to us. We email and use the chat services to save money, but also spend hours on the phone talking like normal people. In my opinion we got to know each other on a level much deeper than most. I can assure you our relationship isnt based on sex or physical activities because we are hardly together. Instead its based on knowing each other inside our minds and hearts. Even when we are together the physical part of our lives doesnt outweigh the other stuff we do. We can easily hang out at a movie, or go to dinner, or take a long walk without having to jump each others bones. Of course the sex is really good also, dont get me wrong.

And so, we embark on another journey. I have a fiancee now. Wow. We will start working on the paperwork to get Wifey™ over here. It’s what we decided together. Its easier for her to move here than it is for me to move there due to the type of job I have. We are both really excited about getting the process moving forward.

Next month, Wifey™ will come to San Francisco for a visit and will get to meet my family and friends and find out whats its like in nice weather. 🙂 She’ll also get kidnapped for a day out with the girls, since my mom and sister want to take her shopping in the City. There will be dinners to go to and friends and to see and lots of things to do. It will be fun. We will be together.

So, here’s to another milestone. It was a great 2000 and I’m looking forward to an even better 2001. I hope you all had a really nice New Years day and will find 2001, the real start of the Millennium, to be the best yet.

I’ve learned that you can’t sit around waiting for the perfect time to do something, because you could be waiting forever. If you want it, go for it. If you dont get it or it doesnt work out, at least you tried. Make this year the best of your life …
