Plays Well With Others

Let it ride … I spent

Let it ride …

I spent a portion of my weekend in Reno … land of the slot machine. It was sort of a last minute decision. My friends and I wanted to get away for a little bit and six hours later, we were in Reno.

Most of the ride was good and about halfway through we decided to stop for a pee and rest break. We turned off near Sacramento and stopped at the nearest In-N-Out burger, and as Californians know … its one of the best fast food burgers in town. Of course, getting a table is a pain in the ass because its so popular, so we ended up sharing a table with some old man, who had three extra chairs. He talked the whole time about how In-N-Out burger was his favorite and how he’d been to almost all of them. He even began telling us about the secret menu …

Lunch ended and we hit the road again for another three hours. About two hours into it, we hit traffic. The cars stopped moving and we just sat there and then to make things more interesting, it started snowing on top of us. Most everyone held tight for the first twenty minutes or so, but when the snow got harder and started covering the cars up on the road, people began getting out and throwing snowballs at each other. At least it made for some interesting entertainment.

Finally after nearly forty-five minutes of sitting there and about an inch of snow covering the road and cars, we began moving again. I’m guessing the snow plows came out to clear the road. But we were off.

About an hour later we arrived in Reno. For those of you that havent been there, I’d totally suggest Las Vegas over Reno, of course it takes twice as long coming from San Francisco. Las Vegas is where the cool hotels are, the New York New York and the Paris hotels, the Luxor and the Stratosphere. Reno has about three or four major hotels/casinos. Circus Circus is neat and has some things for the kids to do … all those circus type games where you can win those stuffed animals. The Silver Legacy and the Eldorado are a bit more fun. I tend to play the nickel machines because I can spend an hour or so and have some fun with it. Also, I’d have no clue how to enter a craps table. I just have a feeling you can’t go up with a dime and say you want to enter the game.

I spent most of the night playing the nickel machines, while my friends walked around the hotel. They refused to play because they felt it was a waste of money. My thinking is “why the hell go to Reno if you arent willing to waste a couple of bucks?”. I think total I spent $10 – $12 in nickels on machines. I won fifty nickels once and 100 nickels another time. In the end, I spent it all, but had a fun time doing it. I think if you are going somewhere like that you should go with a limit in mind and stick to it. I had a hundred dollars in cash in my wallet, but decided ahead of time that I’d only spend up to $15 of it on machines. Also, be sure to go with people willing to have the same fun you want to have. I’d probably also find out what shows were going on when I arrived so I could see one of those … we forgot and missed them.

Reno is fun.. just dont get caught up and spend all your money. They even have machines where you can stick credit cards into to play … scary.
