Plays Well With Others

Whhhhhhyyyy Meeeeee!

Ugh. About five minutes after I created yesterday entry abou my MySQL dillemma I figured it out and now it’s working. Ugh. Isn’t that how life always is? The second you tell someone about the problem is goes away. Sort of like when you go to the mechanic because your car is making a strange noise and then when you get there, the noise is nowhere to be found. And the second you leave and drive just far enough from that mechanic the noise starts back up. Ugh. Just like when your shoe makes a noise and people think you farted and then you try to recreate it and you can’t. And no one believes you that you didn’t really fart.

Anyhow, the database server is up and running. Of course, everything else is fucked up now, but that’s a whole other ball of wax. It’s all Apple’s fault. I love Apple. But with their server, they put out a product that just screws up one thing after another. It’s insane in the membrane. But it’s also fun. At times. Sort of like that puzzle where every piece looks the same. You know, that mirror puzzle. All the pieces have that shiny mettalic coating on them and you can’t really distinuguish one from another. Frustrating as hell to put together, but when you finally get it you feel that sense of accomplishment and pride that you got it.

Anyhow, that’s how I spend my nights. Trying to figure out how to get a stable work environment.

Speaking of stable environments, Wifey™ and I have decided to look into moving. Not out of state or country or anything exciting like that, but to a new complex. With rents going down, we’d be able to use the rent we pay for the crack slum we currently live in and get more bang for our buck.

Currently, our $1400 rent (mind you, this is the Bay Area) gets us a two bedroom apartment. And thats about it. The apartment is about 900 sq. ft. with very little closet space, except for our walk in closet in the bedroom. All the cabinets are that really dark walnut wood from the 70’s and the countertops probably havent been updated since the building was erected. In fact, our bathroom counter is so old that is has that gold sparkly stuff embedded in it. It’s probably vintage at this point. But god awful. The grounds include an area in the back that is utterly useless and a new fence. We have two parking stalls and one washer and dryer that is shared by the other five tenants in the building. Oh, and did I mention the wonderful noise problem. Yep. We are perfectly situated between a train station, an airport, a freeway, a hospital, a police department and a fire department. So at any given moment we are hearing trains rumbling, planes overhead, cars whizzing by, ambulances, fire trucks or police cars on chase down the street. And since we live on a major freeway getting out of our driveway is a constant lesson in risking your life. Plus, there’s nowhere for guest to park, except for our “one” extra parking stall.

So now that I’ve sold you on the place, let me tell you what we are looking at. It’s another two bedroom, but in a much larger complex. The apartment is basically the same size, but the second bedroom is slightly larger. The cabinets are all white, and there’s a ton of closet space. The grounds include a ton of tree and grassy areas, a laundry room with about fifty brand new washer’s and dryer’s, a fitness center, a swimming pool, and a clubhouse area. Even nicer though, we wouldn’t be located on a major thoroughfare. No trains and no planes. Within walking distance is a shopping center and a bike/walking trail that goes along the Bay.

The more we look at living somewhere else the more we like it. At this point we are on a waiting list and should be hearing something soon.
